Check!
(although the countersink bit is in the kit).
Wood glue - I take it Elmers is a no no?

Oops and what screw size should I go for? I guess since the MDF is 3/4" and the batton wood is about the same, 1" or 1 1/4 wood screws would be okay?

I used #6 1 1/4 wood screws on mine and they worked out just fine. Although I used oak plywood, not sure if something else would be better for MDF.

Yes, elmers sucks for real woodwork.
I use "Titebond II", but there are others that work too. I hear the one with the gorrilla on the front is great (don't remember the name ATM).
As for screws, IIRC used 1 1/4" #6 also (might have been #8), but on partical board. Be sure to pre-drill holes for the screws with MDF and partical board.

I used 1 1/4 #6 drywall screws because they have a coarse thread that seems to hold well in MDF. As said previously you must predrill MDF.
For glue a polyurathane type works really well.
