Hi there all ArcadeContols forum-goers.

I have been doing a lot of research into building a MAME cabinet.
Inspired by Delusional's awesome control panel/cabinet, i have decided to build a cab of similar specs.

I have the cabinet and it's ready for a monitor. Went onto Betson's Website and ordered the 27" Betson Digital Multi-Sync monitor as this 'seems' to be up there in the ratings (and Delusional uses it :P). However, upon ordering, Betson emailed me and advised this monitor has been replaced with the MakVison 27" Flat.

Quote from Email:
"I do need to tell you that the specific monitor you ordered is NLA..  You had ordered the 44-4070-RT which represents a round tube..  We do not have that type anymore. The replacement is a 44-4071-DF which is a MAKAVISION MFG.. AND THEY ARE DINAFLAT SCREEN.. This is also used in RAW thrills games such as BIG BUCK HUNTER and other Raw thrill games"
Also the specs list he provided:

• Works in either Standard Resolution (CGA), Medium Resolution (EGA) or VGA Resolution
• Unit will also work with older Golden Tee games (Golden Tee, Golden Tee Fore and Golden Tee Fore 2002-2005)
• Universal mounting frame that will fit in most cabinet configurations
• Because of the flat CRT, you will need to replace with a 27" flat form fitted bezel
• UL Approved
• 1-Year warranty
• Power cord sold separately

Doing some research on this monitor, my understanding is that this monitor is an 'analog', not a 'digital' like the Betson Digital Multi-Sync, which in turn, will need to be "adjusted" each time the monitor changes resolution between games?
Also the Maximum Resolution is lower than the Betson Digital Multi-Sync.

uhm... yes.

though it is not a true digital, but not really analog, it does switch automatically, the adjustments to the screen positions and size are still needed when switching resolutions.

so it's digital LIKE (auto switching), but really its meant for one resolution, but can be used for many different.

basically so you can buy one monitor and use it in 100 different machines regardless of resolution required. but not for using it for 100 different resolutions at the same time.

OK,

What seems to be the monitor of choice now-a-days for multi resolution MAME machines? Wells Gardner?

sorry 100 people have argued the same question 100 times and never get an answer.
it comes down to...

if you buy it, be sure you can fix it.

and

if it works for your setup, use it.

otherwise, if you get a lead on a monitor for a good price, shoot us the make/model # and we can let you know the good and bad about it. i would have a look at http://niemandisplays.com/ (http://niemandisplays.com/) since rick often views/posts to these boards and if you have an issue he is behind you 100%
