Hey All,
I found this on...slashdot maybe...not sure... At any rate this is old school and a lot of fun. The controls are mappable in game and it's...hard/fun.

Have fun!

Nice find... it's about an 82 meg download. Mainly because of the high quality mp3 soundtrack. 66 mb worth!
It's just like Gradius but on Steroids. Has a nice storyline too. A keeper! :applaud:
The only thing is that it won't assign ALL keys on the keyboard. My buttons are set to / and \ and those don't register. I have to play with it more to find a workaround, but still a great game.

Thats great but tough, and I hate games that make you start back at the beginning of the level when you die
Very much like a game I have called "lifeforce"
I'll give a good play though thanks! :applaud:

Well, it looks like it'd be a good one, but it doesn't seem to want to work on Win7 64. Tried all the various compat settings and it crashes on them all.
I guess I'll have to wait till I get my cab back up (it's XP 32)

What problem are you having using Win 7 x64? I just downloaded it and launched it without setting any compat settings and it's working fine. Tested on my cab Win 7 x64 as well with no issues. Pretty cool little game. Very Gradius/Life Force'ish. Very cab worthy game though.
This is from the readme:
KNOWN ISSUES
- Some graphic cards can cause a blurry
effect on the whole screen. If you
can't solve it with the screen mode
options ingame, try with your graphics
card scaling configuration.
Also, some Windows configurations like
windows aero can cause this effect, you
can also try to change it to basic or
standard Windows looking.
- Windowsblinds can cause a startup crush
- Plugging a gamepad on the fly can
cause a slow down for a few seconds.

This game was listed on the PC Cab games thread and is fantastic. Just curious what specific issues you are having with key assignments? I have an Ipac2 and have had no issues assigning keys?

That desktop in the demo video looks great. Anyone know where it came from?

Did some more testing last night on my cabinet. Here are the keys that are NOT assignable: [ ] - = \ / ; ' , . `
Also, this game is quite buggy. On my arcade cabinet, the background music (mp3 format) would not play in the game. I also got no voice during the cut scenes, only sound fx. The mp3's play fine outside of the game in Windows XP Pro 32 SP3 (retail). Worked fine on my first test rig though. Has me scratching my head. ???

delete this - never mind :)

OK...
Found a fix for the issue. I contacted the developer Locomalito (nice guy) and he said that it was possible to edit the key_config.ini file to insert the scancodes of your choice in there.
So I found this free utility: http://www.byremote.com.au/downloads/CheckScanCode_4000.zip (http://www.byremote.com.au/downloads/CheckScanCode_4000.zip)
And Bam, worked like a charm.
I'm still waiting on an answer for the sound issue though.
And my last gripe... it's widescreen. :( But still it's FREE! :lol

Forgot to reply to this. I have an Ipac4. I just re-assigned my keys to not have CTRL and ALT as the first 2 buttons. I did this so that certain emulators that hated CTRL + ALT would work on my arcade machine.

Not sure what's up with my machine, but it's good to know it works +somewhere+ on Win7 64...
Rats, looks like a good game...

Hmm I could have sworn that Hydorah lets you assign keys? I will take another look because like you I re-assigned CTRL and ALT for the same reasons but didn't notice any bugs or control issues with this game. Two more great games are Steel Saviour and Alien Avenger 2 btw ;)
EDIT: Now I got you...the keys you have set your cab to are NOT mappable within the game's key config utility...gotcha

works like a charm on my win 7 64 bit =), no sound issues, time to upgrade :P
*edit* By the way, this is by no means "new" and is actually from the 80s. I just wanted to put it out there in case someone hadn't heard about it by now. It's called QWAK.. it's sort of like bubble bobble, but not. The pc version is about 10 us dollars and has map download packs (for free). Support this time of game by purchasing this game.

Here's the author's reply (did I mention this guy is great and replies very quickly?)
"Yep, its some problem with the mp3 decoder and the way the game plays music, a guy discovered that can be solved installing ffdshow codec. The same with another gamemaker games wich uses saudio.dll"
So there you have it.

As soon as this game was available, I've been completely hooked. I love it. I love the production qualities, the artwork, the weapon upgrade system, the 3-save system...and most of all, the difficulty!!
Every time i boot it up, the "this is a game based on 80's standards" puts a smile on my face. Yeah NOS (New OLD SCHOOL)!!! :applaud:
-
Yeah, I wish we had more games like this!
-
I finally got around to trying this. Initially neat. Cool music. Rough collision detection. And at death you are do not continue right from there, but are returned to some 'mark point' in the game.
Worth keeping around for posterity's sake.
-
Looks fun but I couldn't get it to work. I got the screen where it had the phrase about the 80's
Then said Ram Ok
Rom OK
then a x and y axis screen and then it froze.
bummer looked fun
Is there more games out there like this? I remember when Hampsterball came out for the trackball. That was a blast.
-
I've only gotten to the fifth or six stage,
the first two being the hardest of them.
I sat up all night playing it, kept dying,
getting pissed off, then trying again.
Must be pretty good!
