Hey all,
I recently upgraded my external HDD to a Hitachi HTS541612J9SA00 120GB SATA HDD enclosed in a generic USB case, and every time I play any game for more than 20-30 minutes, the drive enters a sleep mode and renders the Wii useless - I have to manually power the system down, back on, and load the game again to continue. Obviously, this is less than ideal for me, so I was wondering if any of you know of any way to change the power management settings on this drive. I've tried looking at their website, and even downloaded the technical documentation, but it got me nowhere. Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks!

Is your external enclosure not a powered one? I have a 1 tb drive hooked up to my Wii via a powered external case and I don't have any issues with it powering down.

It's a 2-pronged USB cable that uses both USB ports on the back of the wii and takes it's power through that.

Although I don't have the specifics for your drive, you're heading in the right direction. I had to run a Western Digital-supplied utility against my WD drive while it was connected to my PC to make this problem go away.

I know on my seagate external HDD, I had to run software by them that allowed me to turn off the power management.

Yeah, I know there's some sort of software for most drives - western digital's drives come to mind - but I can't seem to find any for this particular drive... It might be back to DVDs soon if I can't get a fix up and running... :banghead:

Just buy a non-crap drive, cheapskate.
Pffft. That's your answer for everything!
