I've run into the issue of MAME running VERY laggy, at maybe 50% speed or less, even on the least graphics heavy, early games. I feel like my hardware should be very capable of running these slower games.
I'm running a Compaq Presario SR1214NX
These are it's specs: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c00234149 (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c00234149)
It says the video card is Integrated with up to 64 MB allocated video memory...Would that be the main issue? The rest of the specs seem fine..
Thanks

the options you have turned on or off are the issue.

which options do you speak of sir?

You might want check whether mame's being forced into, I believe it's GDI mode?
I had an old laptop that I thought I could run mame in, I was AMAZED at the speed difference
The setting for my mame anyway is
#
# WINDOWS VIDEO OPTIONS
#
video d3d
the d3d is Direct3d, it can also be set to GDI, which is generally much slower, but Mame will switch to it if it can't run d3d.
Might be something to check anyway.

Checked, apparently mines on d3d too. Dunno. I guess I just won't be able to have a dedicated PC in the cab.

You tell us. :D
There are so many, I'd rather see yours and just point out what might be the culprit.

Oops. Well I'd tell you but I just gave the PC to my friend. He's going to mess around with it and see if he can figure anything out. For now I've got my main PC which can easily handle all the ROMS i'll be using. Thanks anyways, I guess i'll let you know if i figure anything out.

It could also be your version of MAME. I know my friend was running an older AMD Athlon XP2200+ and MAMEUI32 0.126 which ran most games nicely but for games like MK and KI he had to use an older version of MAME which made night and day difference.
