Title: Best solution for running seperate horizontal and vertical games?

I want to run vertical games when my monitor is in the vertical position and vice versa for horizontal games.

This would mean that my vertical games dont appear when in horizontal mode.

Can Mala do this, or am I better to run two versions of Mala, one for each orientation?

You can have mala display a certain gamelist when in Vertical Mode and one in Horizontal. Have a look at controller-controller mapping.

Finally getting around to trying this out.

OK, I have 3 gamelists for MAME, and I am only considering MAME at the moment.

All games
Horizontal
Vertical

I can switch off the 'All games' List in the game lists tab - thats great.

My monitor rotates from its normal horizontal position 90 degress anti clockwise to give me my vertical display.

I have assigned a Panel button in 'controller/joystick/advanced/switch orientation' and 'flip orientation' so when I press this button the display rotates to the correct orientation.  So it switches it - displays it upside down, then flips it - showing it the correct way.

Is this the best way to do this?

Also - I cant seem to get the correct gamelists to display for each orientation, it always seems to display both lists - how can I lock the horizontal list to horizontal screen, and vertical list to vertical screen?

Im not sure how controller/controller mapping works - can anyone help me out with this?

In controller - controller mapping you can chooes what gamelist you want displayed on each orientation...

I use this on my cocktail

I have controls of different sides. If I the assigned up,down or start key in the side's set the screen will rotate to that side and display the list I have chosen in the controller / controller mapping screen

Have a play.
