Title: think my Duck-san 29" just died?
Post by: mh12 on June 10, 2010, 10:30:20 pm
i think the monitor grantspain helped me ID here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=87135.0 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=87135.0)

just died! the picture went fuzzy and i started hearing, i guess, static, and i shut off the power bar. trying an hour later, the monitor doesn't power up at all. and there's a strange smell lingering in the room, so i opened up all the windows..

is there any way to save this or is it dead? i have no idea where i'd find a replacement. but at least i'm in Toronto now (and this didn't happen after i move to a smaller place in a few months)

sounds like the flyback is toast
if you have access to a inductance meter you can check the inductance and impedence of the yoke and then match a replacement chassis

thanks again, grant. but i'm pretty clueless with this stuff. time to start seeing who in the area could help out with this.

ETA: by the way, is it OK to use my LCD computer monitor until I fix this CRT/get a new one? My *only* video card is the ArcadeVGA - can that do any damage to a normal PC monitor?

any monitor will work, your ducksan is vga so any lcd or pc monitor will work without issue
the only times you can issues is when you feed vga/svga into a cga monitor-sometimes the HOT fries
