Title: Cabinet/CP Plans, PSDs, etc
Post by: Concept211 on June 10, 2010, 03:20:48 pm
I've been admiring this forum and all of the amazing work people have done over the years and it's all so inspirational.  I really love how helpful everyone is as well.

With that being said, though, so many threads I find where people ask someone if they could share their plans, dimensions, graphics, etc with the rest of the community but they rarely want to help in that department. They usually prefer to sell their plans, services or both.  Granted, I understand that their plans have taken a lot of time and effort to come up with but I just don't see the harm in sharing something that many of us admire so much and simply want to emulate or simply use certain parts for their particular project.

I plan on starting my own project once $ and more importantly, time, allows and I would gladly post my plans if it could help someone else out in this great hobby. Am I alone (or out of line) for thinking this way?  :-\

I don't think that you are alone (although I think that your "usually prefer to sell their plans" is offbase), but I do find that people's good intentions to post plans often evaporate for whatever reason.

I have provided measurements for a number of cabinets to people who said that they would publish the plans and so far not one has done so.

Agreed...to be honest, I was simply admiring 2 or 3 builders and noticed in their threads that people have asked and they instead offer to sell the plan or service instead.  It is not fair for me generalize that as being true for "most" builders/designers.

And you may be right...people may go into it with full intentions on sharing everything with the community but in the end may forget (or maybe too tired) to do so.  I'll certainly try my best to keep my promise...as long as it comes out as something that is worthy of sharing!  ;)

Really?  I've found people to be quite helpful sharing plans (where the plans actually exist).  Both Knievel and Lokksen have given out plans and they are some of the most copied designs. ARTIFACT posted all of the crazy sketchup files for his awesome cab.  There's also Jakobud's site which hosts a lot of designs.

That's odd...I didn't want to mention any names, but Knievel's CP plans was something that I've been looking for but I just see posts where people have bought them from him or he builds and sells the complete CP instead.  If his plan is really out there, could you point me in the right direction of where to find it (I've searched the forums, but maybe I'm not hitting the right keywords??).

I'm not trying to be lazy or anything...I just love his layout (besides the shifted/angled position of the six-button layout) and the fact that people have said it's very comfortable.

I'll definitely have to search around for ARTIFACT's stuff.  I feel like I can read these forums for years and barely even scratch the surface!  Love it! ;)  Thanks for the info!
