I don't have the extra cash to order one now, but I thought I'd pass it along . Whatever your experiences are with Seagate, this is a tough deal to beat.

Seagate has always made excellent hard drives. The fact that they have come with 5-year warranties for ages speaks to this. Your chances of ever receiving that rebate are, however, less than 100%.

I've heard enough bad stuff about rebates through Tigerdirect that I don't even bother sending them in. If I see something like this hard drive that says mail-in rebate, I tend to not order it in the first place.

I think I am like 1 for 12 on rebates.
abc warehouse
best buy
sears
some psu company
direct tv
hoover vac
can't remember them all but the best I ever got out of all was a $20.00 rebate check

I agree I got stiffed a few years back by Tiger Direct and the rebate scams...
-
Looks like the rebate is paid in the form of a "prepaid reward card." I've had bad luck with those in the past. Nothing like being told at the register that your card has no balance on it. Too bad.
Still a pretty good price even without the rebate. I paid $90 for the same drive 6 months ago.

i remember get stiffed with a rebate from microsoft on a sidewinder controller, i never got my rebate check from patriot for a buying there memory.

They got into shoot some yers ago for the rebate scams. So why would they start again?
-
I've thought about doing that exact thing many times.

Where I got burnt was trying to use a $25 card from Sprint to partial pay a larger bill at Target. In hindsight I should have just made little purchases on the card like you suggest. I'd still rather have a check for a rebate.
