Title: CPS3 and Maximus Arcade Problem (No sound???)
Post by: highholyme on June 09, 2010, 10:23:19 am
While I wait for the money to materialize for my cab parts I figure I may as well get the software part of configuration out of the way. I tried a few FE's and Maximus Arcade seems to suit me best, IE requires the least amount of work from me.  ;D

I have run into an odd problem, I was using CPS3 to emulate certain games so I can pass that whole hour or so loading thing in mame. (Damn compressed CHD's.) CPS3 is compatible is Maximus, but it loads with no sound? When I load CPS3 out of MA it works perfect, sound and all.

Anyone share this experience or have any tips?

I haven't tried to load Streetfighter 3 3rd strike in Mame (I had no Idea it was working in mame) but it loads and plays great in my cps3 emulator.  I know what your talking about though with the no sound problem.  I am using Maximus arcade also and the cps3 emulator first loads with no sound but after hitting the enter (or whaterver select button you are using) the sound starts up and the ownage begins  ;D.  I think this is because the emulator is running in the background and the enter key for some reason, after being pressed twice, brings the emulator to the foreground.  Try hitting the enter key and see if that does anything.  Hope it works for you, 3rd strike is played more than anything on my cabinet.

What cps3 emu are you using?

try changing the windows state on the bottom right to hidden, minimized, maximized.. try them all and see if that does an option.  Also, when I had this issue I remember that pressing "enter" on my keyboard made the sound start working.  maybe it wasn't enter, but it was a key on the keyboard.

Also, the cps3 emu does skip the hour load, but on mame you only have to go through that once.  there's only a few cps3 games.. just do it for one game go and do something else and by the time you come back it'll be done.  It's not that bad.

Wait, so a CPS3 emulator surpasses that hour loading in mame problem?

If so I may have to add CPS3 to my emulators in maximus arcade!

If the answer is yes I'll add it this week and see if I have the same problem you are having.  Have you posted on the maximus arcade forum yet?

Uh, you know you only have to load it once in MAME right, after which the NVRAM is saved, just like the real PCB? and it doesn't take a whole hour, maybe 6-7 minutes unthrottled on a decent system?

For most games there are asia NOCD sets supported too, which will just load straight up (Warzard is the exception)

dont forget to put MAME into "turbo mode" by turning off throttling, you can zip through the initialization because the emulation will run at like 900%

how is that done? and does this affect gameplay too?

I believe you press F10 (or F11, F12), when you get to the actual game just turn the throttling off.
