Title: Number and placement of buttons...
Post by: Slippyblade on June 07, 2010, 12:13:27 pm
Ok, working on my first cabinet in this thread (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=102828.0) and decided to pause a bit and layout the CP.  Couple questions though.  I've been using MAME for a while now using a Street Fighter PS3 arcade style stick.  Standard six button layout with a slight arc to the buttons as in the first pic.  I've seen a lot of panels on this site though that use a seven button layout with the seventh button below the main six and slightly offset to the left.

  O O O
  O O O
O

Like that...  What is that seventh button for?  I've seen passing reference to Neo-Geo games but I don't understand. I've NEVER seen a game with seven buttons.

Ideas?

It's just closer to the genuine neo geo layout. It's personal preference really. I'm happy to do without it but it's up to you and depends on what you are going to use the cab for mostly.

Ahhh, I'd forgotten about the ABCD layout.  Thanks for that illustration.

Hi guys first post

Digging up this thread,

I went for an unusual layout because I the 3 x 2 layout for games such as street-fighter but 4 in a row for Neo Geo stuff, here is my pannel:

I also did something unusual for my position of the bottons relative to the joysticks, see my shocker of a drawing here:
