there was a similar thread about this sort of thing a few weeks ago about a mame cabinet in a cinema or something.
Its kind of dodgy, but i cant believe people are actually buying it. People will probably say its 'unethical' to take advantage of MAME, doesnt really bother me, if someone is stupid enough to pay $75 for stuff you can get for free, then might as well make some quick cash.
but i'm guessing it wont be long before his account gets banned...

Somehow, I doubt that image is of his gameroom...
-
Everyone click report item. I have.
-
He's even hotlinking images in his description. Check out his Pacman "screenshot". ::)
P.S. - I reported him as well. That's just pure greed. It kind of angers me he's already made at least $325 off the hard-work of others (based on his feedback info).
-
i reported him also, cant believe his auction is still running strong

What FE is it? There are a few that do cost money. I'm not justifying what he's doing. Just pointing out that not all are free.
-
seen it many times on ebay from outside the US and they were selling a decent amount of sets and getting away with it for awhile so it does not suprise me any that another has shown up.
-
Reported i was one of the first to report this item what a crook :badmood:
-
Seems to have had the correct treatment now.

Awesome job, folks! :D

I know it's evil to sell it like that, but take a look from the other side of the picture.
What if you have slow internet? Or you simply couldn't be bothered to download so many games? Provided that it's not a scam, the DVDs would be a great way of getting roms for you.
Not advocating piracy, but I'm just saying, there might be some people who could use something like this.

Even so, $75 is insane. If his goals were indeed philanthropic he'd be charging for the media at most. $75 ranks up there with my daughter walking outside and picking up the quartz from the neighbors yard and selling it to the neighbor on the other side for 25 cents per rock. BTW: we made her pay the kid back...

Like the last guy said, $75 is nuts. This person on ebay has made a lot of money selling something that does not belong to him.
-
Not pointing at any. But there are sites that charge reasonable rates and will burn the roms for free if you send the media + return postage. This guy was obviously just profiting from the work of others.

It's not Comcast anymore, it's Xfinity. The X stands for eXtra, as in it costs extra. finity comes from infinity as in that's how long you're going to wait for anything. ::)

Too bad, so sad. It's just a bunch of video games you're paying someone for who has no right to profit off of them. Not to mention that many ROMs are small and will download just fine over a dial-up connection. Who except MAME enthusiasts needs the thousands of redundant game ROMS for every variation of a particular title, ROMs for games that don't work, CHD's that won't run smoothly on any computer, etc.? He's just selling BS to naive buyers and is a pariah on the community. There is no justification for what he's doing.
-
I'm not saying it's right. It's kind of a ripoff. In fact, it's a huge ripoff. I guess you could get a friend to download your roms or something :blah:

maybe for $5 with the time to compile and for the burnable media, but this takes the piss.
These will always be on their though! Search mame on Ebay uk and there will be loads.
-
They use to (and still do) have some "mame burning rom service" I got a complete set back in the day for like $15 - mame .068 or something. Torrent files and hi speed Internet hasn't always been around remember :)
-
Yeah, those mame sets are pretty easy to find for sale online. You have to agree that you own all the originals though.. does that disclaimer really provide any protection for the seller?
and.. is it me or have game companies stopped caring about pirating? There are more sites now than ever and you can find games for current gen consoles rather easily. Except for that one guy who upped super mario galaxy 2.
-
and.. is it me or have game companies stopped caring about pirating?
Ask Ubisoft, EA, etc

No....
Check out all the DRM on PC games or the Xbox 360 consoles that get banned for illegal mods, etc. etc. etc. Companies are very much still fighting the pirates.
You don't hear much about these companies going after MAME because it's still a niche item, unlike MP3's that everyone was downloading and that's why the RIAA starting the road to suing individuals for insane amounts of money.
-
There is quite a difference in say Xbox 360 games and Time Pilot. The more money they stand to loose, the more they care. Makes sense, no?

When ever I see a posting like that I "RE:" a post with a location they can download all the Roms from for free, assuming they own the originals that is.

Fwiw, I live a few minutes away from Glenelg. Bandwidth is expensive around here, and most ISP plans have download caps. I didn't get to see his page before it was taken down, but if he was offering all the ROMs and CHDs on disc, you'd have trouble downloading all that in this area for under $75. You could theoretically do it for $60-$70, if you spent a solid month downloading with the cheapest ISP and didn't use your bandwidth for anything else.
Not excusing his actions at all, but it probably explains why he got buyers.
