Title: how to figure out if my pc has an PCI-E or AGP graphics card?

I need to figure this out to get the proper driver, I bought it from hp.. so I'm not sure.

I'm no PC expert by any means. However a quick google gave me this image:

If you dont want to take your card out you may be able to find out by running some software. I found a thread [here (http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/210399-12-pcie)] that may help.

If you know the model of your PC/mobo someone may be abe to tell you purely from that.

Are you sure you even have a graphics card?  You may be using onboard graphics.  A model number would help.

Even if you are using onboard graphics you may still have a graphics card slot.  How old is the computer?  That would give a fair indication.

 SIW.exe  (http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.html) is a great tool to use.  Under go to Hardware and system slots.  I use the freeware version without installer.

If you're just trying to figure out what graphics card you have, Device Manager should list something under Display Adapters.  Example: Mine says Radeon x850.

I ask because when downloading the drivers for my graphics card it gives me the option of choosing one for a PCI-E or AGP card for the same driver... not sure if it makes a difference but I tried the PCI-E one and it worked fine.

I know which graphics card I have, its a ati radeon hd 4850

ATI has released both a PCI-E and an AGP version of the HD4850. The easiest way to know is to take out the graphics card from your computer and look at the images Franco B posted, but it's most likely that you have a PCI-E card because AGP cards really aren't in demand anymore because it's old technology.

It seems like you've already downloaded the PCI-E drivers and it's working fine, so I would assume that's the type of card that you have.
