I want to build a Donkey Kong upright cabinet arcade game while trying to stay as authentic as reasonably possible. If it possible to buy an arcade type monitor new? If so any ideas on brands or best places to buy? I think Donkey Kong had a 19" monitor.

CRT monitors of your required specification are going by way of the dinosaurs.
it is still possible to find an acceptable alternative, but for all intents and purposes, unless you are restoring an original game, it would be easier and less expensive to use an old computer monitor or even LCD.

if ure located in europe take a 2o inch tv . there are plenty brands 2 choose from , i usually use grundigs with thomson or samsung a48 tubes . there are for sure not many manufactures with 19 inch arcadestyle tubes . those 19 inch were common 10-20 years ago . nowadays 21 inch is the most common midsize. with selfbuild jamma 2 scart adapter u can hookup any arcade pcb or use mamescart cable . shots taken from a grundig davio t51 2401 text with mamescart . playstation and saturn . the picture quality is better as it seems. my old camera isnt the best choice ,when it comes to tv snapshots.
if its gonna be authentic as possible lcd and pc crt are no issue. go for arcade 15 k screen or rgb scart tv.
