Went to finally install Daphne in my cab and the connection times out. Anybody know what's going on?
-
Yea I was at that point yesterday and noticed the same thing.
-
Anyone know if there was a version of Daphne (the emulator, not Daphne Loader) after v1.0 (beta)? That's the one I have.
-
I also got the v1.0 from another site. The daphne-emu site has been down for at least a week...
-
I'm not sure who the site admin is, but I wonder if we can help with donations...
-
If your realy stuck you can get it from here .www.laserarchive.com/ddl (http://www.laserarchive.com/ddl). Its the loader but once youve got it you can turn off all that download/update/check malarky, better than no Daph!

Wow! Thanks Rusty! Never heard of that. I'll give that shot this afternoon.
I hope daphne-emu isn't gone for good. It would be a shame to lose yet another resource (I'm still mourning localarcade), and I really wanted to convert Dragon's Lair II: Time Warp Blu-Ray to Daphne, and there were a lot of things on the forum that I needed to get it done.
-
Don't worry - there's lots of alternative sites to get what you need. I already had Daphne up and running before I even knew about the original site!
-
It is still down. Or gone.
-
Well it's still paid up:
Domain: daphne-emu.com
Creation Date: 05-Sep-2001
Updated Date: 10-Jul-2009
Expiration Date: 05-Sep-2010
I'm sure it will pop up again, probably just server\hosting issues

This is the message you get when you try to go to the site.
The Daphne site is in the process of changing hosting providers! It will be back soon!

Please let me know how this goes. I own all the blu-ray versions and was fortunate enough to find HD downloads for Space Ace & Dragon's Lair... but I have no idea how to convert my Blu-Ray to Daphne. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
-
When you download the loader it asks you for your original Dragons Lair, Space Ace etc DVD for verification. Im not sure about Bluray versions tho.
There is a prog out there called DVD2Daph for DVD conversion but again I dont know if it works with Bluray or if there is a Bluray version
-
If I recall the Blu-Ray version will not authenticate the install...

FYI, MAME devs have started working on emulating the laser disc games.

More than started - I have been playing Firefox and Cubequest in Mame for a little while now. Here's the playable list so far:
Cliff Hanger
Cobra Command
Cube Quest
FireFox
M.A.C.H. 3
Us vs. Them

This is fantastic news. Glad this one didn't go down.

From my understanding the MAME versions will be more authentic, but the CHDs are enormous. Plus, Daphne has so many more configurable options. And the ability to run the HD versions (they're beautiful restorations) and the new move versions of Dragon's Lair and Space Ace.

I'll definitely give you a heads-up if I ever get it to work. I'm still waiting for a cheap Blu-Ray drive to pop up on Newegg. When the site goes back up, there is technical info on ripping the DL2:Time Warp Blu-Ray in the forum. It's in the Dragon's Lair & Space Ace HD thread.

I wouldn't call the Mame CHD's enormous; they average about 13GB each. When you can get a 1TB drive for $69, the size just isn't a factor anymore. As far as configurable goes, gamepad support in Daphne sucks - Mame spanks it there. With the other options, if you could configure it on the real thing, then you can do it Mame for the most part. Daphne just doesn't have the big advantage anymore, except for support of the newer HD versions - and then you are right back to enormous file sizes...

I think Dragon's Lair is part of that list, too.
Daphne site is back.

13 GB = several hours of downloading = enormous
-
From what I undertand, anything sold by Digital Leisure will not be in Mame anytime soon. The Dragon's Lair driver has been in Mame for a long time...
So Dragon's Lair 1 and 2, plus Space Ace will be absent...use Daphne...

You need a faster connection - I do love me some FIOS...

yeah, Dragon's Lair was the first game that Aaron got working, he never included it in a release. Read into that what you want.

+1
I can't even run Daphne on my cab without half- a-dozen background programs (okay, one or two) to overcome the limitations of the prog. and my the way my CP is wired. It's not even worth it for me at this point.

Actually, Kagaden, now that the forum is back up, that thread has mysteriously reverted to it's latest post being 2007. I was lucky enough to make a pdf of the site with the info (it has stuff like proper resolutions and framerates). PM me with an email address if you want it.

There's a post on there saying the forum is an older copy until he sorts some things out.

Me too... 50mb connection makes 13gb downloads nothing.

I had forgotten this. If I recall, he used it as a test bed for laser disc emulation. (And he was especially interested in how DL worked.)

I have no trouble with my U360 in Daphne.

It's not a problem if you have ONE joystick and all your "exit" and "coin" buttons are mapped to that one joystick. But the way I have my panel set up, admin functions (like pause) are mapped to the second player buttons. And the kicker, my EXIT button (a small little unassuming Radio Shack button in the upper right) is wired to Mouse 2 (the only available input when I added that button at the 11th hour).
I aim to keep my cabinet as simple as possible for guests, and Daphne games complicate it too much when I have to have workarounds in place. And at the end of the day, I could do things differently, but I'm not totally in love with DL or SA enough to go through the trouble.
(P.S. - Not Daphne's fault, most of the the LD games didn't have need for much configuration - save for that multi-button game Thayer's Quest. Not expecting them to change the entire program for the small number of people who have limitations such as mine. It just is what it is.)

I can't access Daphne's website. Been like this for a couple of days now.... :(
-
I can't hit it either. Hopefully it's just a update issue...
