Title: Very Basic UK Wiring question
Post by: Edwards80 on May 30, 2010, 07:19:48 am
Hi all

I'm about to start wiring my 1st control panel and just want to double check something. Most of the guides I have read tell you to use 22AWG wire for the controls. I've converted this to UK standards and want to check I haven't ballsed it up in the process!

I've figured that this stuff http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=6192 (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=6192) With the blue crimps here would suffice http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=42725 (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=42725)

Please let me know if I have been a numpty and messed this up before I order :)

those blue spade crimps are pretty large gauge,i would use red personally but tbh its not important.remember there is no real voltage on signal lines so the wire you use can be pretty thin

+1 on the red spades.

And I found that If I double over the wire and THEN insert it into the space and crimp, it's a MUCH stronger connection (much less likely that you'll pull it out if you tug on it.)

IE just strip a little more wire than you usually would and bend it into a tight U, then insert the U into the space and crimp.

Cool. Thanks guys. Will get the red spades instead. Not sure that I'll get more than a couple in my control panel though.
