Hi,
Subject says it all. Is the Ultimarc J-stick made by Sanwa ? I got a reply to this question in a past thread and accepted it, then I saw this...

Any light would be helpful.

Interesting site. The J-Stik is definitely made by Sanwa, it even says Sanwa on the black dust washer.
However the blue joystick in the middle of the picture on the website is actually made by Seimitsu. The Seimitsu joysticks are very similar to the Sanwa ones but not quite as good IMHO.

Yes, definitely a SANWA stick. I love my J-Stick. Only one problem:
I could swear it once switched from 8-way to 4-way on its own. Could this rotation be triggered through normal gameplay? has anyone else experienced this?

once. tighten the bolts on the restrictor plate. that fixed me up

Tom, Not that it matters but in that Happ/Sanwa comparison link you posted it seems that the guy didn't know what brand that blue ball top stick was. I just wanted to point out that it is made by Seimitsu .Its a japanese stick that has a similar feel to Sanwa and is also 4-8 way switchable however its not as easy to switch from 4 to 8 as the Sanwa is. I'm pretty sure you have to flip the actuator to change modes. If you ever see a joystick with a bright green actuator then its most definately a Seimitsu. Some people mistake one for the other. There are many other differences but the green actuator is the quickest way to tell. Well.... this really doesn't have anything to do with your post since you wanted to know about Happ and Sanwa sticks but I just figured I'd fill you in on the differences of the two main Japanese joystick manufacturers. ;D

Hi,
I figured the J-stick was a Sanwa product just had to be sure, that blue Seimitsu is cool looking and that's good info 'spidermonkey' thanks - - yet another keyword for Google... Plan to buy one ( a j-stick) for 4way this month from Ultimarc. I have been super happy with the Happ Supers and Competition ??? ( the one with the square actuator) but I'm redy for something new.
I see you can buy Sanwa from coinopexpress.com in lots of 50 ;) Blue and Green ball tops . . . red will have to do.
Thanks All,
Tom

If anyone knows where to get a green Sanwa ball please msg me. Are these balls interchanchable with other branded screw-balls?

Sanwa and Seimitsu balls are interchangable. I did that to make a blue top Sanwa.
They sell them on the Sanwa site and they don't cost much but from what I understand, it's hard to get purchases done for non Japan residents because of the way that they sell things there. They don't use credit cards, oddly...

I have $8 for anyone with a green ball!!!! :D

BTW, it seems that no matter how hard I screw the ball on the stick, it tends to unscrew with normal game play. (well, OK, Robotron... but still.) ;D
Anyone else?

yeah that happens to me as well. just got a pair of grips to hold the metal and tightened the ball real tight. you could also just stick some threadlock on it. be careful though if your using grips cos it'll rip up the metal easily - use some innertube or something to protect it.

Actually, there is a grooove on the bottom of the stick, for you to put a screwdriver into (and fix into position) while you screw the ball. Did you not notice this?!
Anyhow, even doing this proves to be worthless, because the ball tends to unscrew with use...

Like Hardflipper said, get some "Loctite" thread locker. It comes in a small tube and you squirt it onto the threads. Loctite comes in several strenths so make sure you get the high strenth version. Loctite is designed to hold very well but with some pressure you should still be able to break it loose if for some reason the ball had to be removed again. Its designed that way so that it isn't super super permanent. If for some reason that doesn't hold then teach it a lesson and get some two part epoxy, mix it up and slather it on the threads inside the ball. screw it on tight and let it sit overnight and your problems are over. Just be sure that you'll never need to remove the ball again because you most likely won't be able to once its cured.
