Hey guys.
Getting ready to drill yet another control panel. Pretty funny considering when I first started this I wanted to buy an X-Arcade. Now I've drilled 4 panels.
Anyway, I'd like to have the proper hardware this time instead of bumming stuff off of friends. I hear a router can do everything except provide lovin, so I'd like to grab one of those.
I'm looking for recommendations on a router. The only thing I would really probably use it for is to drill holes and cut the slot for T-molding on the control panel.

If you want a good router that will last you the life of your woodworking days, Porter Cable or Bosch are the best in the business, followed by the Hitachi and Dewalt for the 3hp models.
But if you just want something that will see occasional use (more likely) then a budget model Craftsman or Ryobi will suit you just fine. I have a Craftsman router permenantly mounted in a router table and can't really complain about it.
You can usually pick up a Craftsman package for less than $59 for a fixed base and should be about comparable for a plunge.
Don't forget the safety glasses though.

that's what I first wanted it for....
and so... I saved up... and you know...
hang out in HD...(hmmm... somehow I don't think I should tell anyone about this...)
ok... so I stay there and play with their tools.... sometimes, they also have demos....
I ended up buying a porter cable 7529... its a good plunge router.... hee hee hee....
and now... I'm not only drilling holes and cutting slots...
I'm also rounding edges.... cutting corner lock joints.... wow.... ;D :o.... I surprised myself... hee hee hee....
go HD and lowes and check things out yourself.....
no need to go crazy but try not to get the cheapest one....
have fun !!!.... ;D
