Title: Professionals, Pro's, Experts and others.... CP design input needed
Post by: docdocdoc on May 27, 2010, 07:11:10 pm
So after a month or so of reading everything I could my head has stopped spinning and I think I am ready to build my first cabinet with my son If you pro’s would be kind enough to look over my plans and see if I have missed anything or if there might be something that would work out better I would appreciate it greatly.

4 player cp

Player 1:  7 action buttons + 1 admin button hooked up to a U360
Player 2:  7 action buttons + 1 admin button hooked up to a U360
Player 3:  J-stik + 4 action buttons hooked up to an I-pac2 ?
Player 4:  J-stik + 4 action buttons hooked up to an I-pac2 ?

2 more admin buttons on the I-pac2.

1 TT2 spinner

1 Trackball (U-TRAK)  ?   + 2 mouse buttons

And possible 1 usb hub (if needed)

If anyone was wondering the admin buttons are: Exit, Save, Load, Pause
On the interface I know there are some different choices I have the mini, VE, or Wiz, or maybe the eco. With the mini I assume I would want to get the harness with it. That would make the I-pac2 a bit cheaper. That is why I am leaning towards that one. As for the other options I don’t know that they will cover what I need. I assume they will but I’m not certain.

I am still not 100% on the trackball either so if anyone has an opinion, I am very open to listening.

Yes I do want 4 players, every weekend my boys have kids sleep over. I know, I know a franken-panel

Thanks for your time guys!!!

You'll likely want a player start and player insert coin button for each player, so that's 9 buttons each for p1-2.

For p3-4, just the 4 + the start and coin should be enough.

Definitely go with a good trackball. I've got 2. We have a blast playing things like marble madness 2 player.
Ok, maybe that's the ONLY 2 player simultaneous trackball game... :)

Definitely get a hub, probably a good 7 port. Make sure the power supply can drive all 7 ports at near 500ma per port.

Personally, I have yet to have a situation where I need 2 buttons dedicated to the trackball. Position it right and you can use the p1 or p2 buttons for trackball buttons. That works quite nicely in my setup.

And welcome aboard!

Thanks drventure,

I totally forgot to type the start and coin for each player. They are in my plan.   ;D

I love Marble Madness but I think we will just take turns.

Thanks for the heads up on the power to the hub.

Each player's "button 1" can double as that player's "start"

That's how Gauntlet was :)
