Title: Dead chassis, what is this component?

Hey all!

I have this Min Dong 25-29" chassis, that have what looks like a burned transistor:

As you can see in the pics there's burned around the legs...the transistor doesn't have any name
on it...and I DID remove the cooling-metal thingy:)

I would really like to know what it is, since it probably needs replacing(?) :dunno

it looks like it might be the MOSFET for the main power supply. not sure 100% though.

if the chassis dead, it might be. Check to see if one of the legs of it connects to a little 8 pin microchip (probably an KA3842) if it does that what it is, you will have to remove the MOSFET and get a replacement.

take note though, often with the replacements you will have to isolate the MOSFET metal backing from the metal of the heatsink or you will blow it the first second you power it. The replacement should come with a grey silicone rubber or a clear plastic LOOKING (its actually thin crystalline silica)  insulator. if the replacement doesn't come with one, and the original part didn't come with one, then don't worry about it. just a FYI.

There's no 8-leg chip anywhere on the board:)

By the way, it has 5 legs. If it is the MOSFET, any idea what a replacement could be called?

Oh, the other one attached to the heatsink on picture 2(left), is a Toshiba C5339...(with 3 legs)

i am working that exact chassis tomorrow,its a power regulator IC-I will get you the part number tomorrow

the 2sc5339 is the HOT

its marked 2s0765 which matches to a KA2S0765

sorry i couldn't tell by the angle of the photo. it looked about right for a MOSFET.

what you got there, it's basically a MOSFET and the KA3842 chip jammed into one component.
