Title: How is everyone fixing "Recommended Games (0)" (mameinfo.dat) these days?
Post by: Triangel7D on May 23, 2010, 09:25:06 am: Just did a lot of searching on this topic last night, and there hasn't been any discussion in the last two years. It's a feature I'd really love to work in MaLa (I love discovering new games).

Are people still fixing the "Recommended Games:" lines (getting rid of "(Airforce 2)" for example) as outlined in this post?

If so, has anyone found a "smart find/replace" program out there, so hand-correcting each one isn't necessary?

Someone had posted an old corrected data in the thread below, but I cannot seem to unzip his archive (even with WinZip).

Also, if I end up correcting my own mameinfo.dat (.138), is that something I can post to the File Repository?

If you're playing, say, Pac-Man, you can have Mala pull up the Recommended Games list to tell you similar games you might also like -- like Make Trax or Mousetrap or Lock & Chase. For me, it helps me find games I've never heard of (and there are a lot in Mame).

The Recommended Games list in mameinfo.dat changed so Mala has a hard time reading it (every game shows 0 recommended games). capitaineflam25's fix quickly fixes the file.

I can't get to my machine at the moment, but there's options to open sub-windows in Mala (one button to open the windows, one to cycle through -- both configurable). It cycles through Marquees, Cabinets, Recommended Games, Game History, etc.

...configure the buttons for Menu open/close and Menu Select.

One must modify the mameinfo.dat (I think) so that MaLa can read it. One must configure nothing more :)
