Title: T-molding trouble
Post by: pepsidx20 on July 31, 2003, 08:16:24 pm
Hey folks,
I've been trying to put in my t-molding.  But the groove where the molding goes is really worn,so it keeps popping out. Any suggestions on how to keep it in there? Other than using glue.

I always end up using small nails to hold the t-molding in on older worn out cabs.

I think glue is your only hope.  People have used hot glue guns, I assume a crazy glue would be good.  The only other things I can think of I wouldn't do myself:

1)  Nail/staple it in (that has to look ugly unoess you get nails the same color as the molding?)
2) If you could somehow wedge paper over the part that goes in the slot, then push it in - where the paper would thicken the part in the slot enough to keep it in there.  Again, sounds hard to do without seeing the paper and doesn't sound too permanent.

I tried the paper, did'nt hold too good.  I guess i better go talk to mr Elmers....
Another question should the molding just wrap around the curves? Or should I cut a slit in it help it contour better?

I think Mr. Elmer Glue dires too slow in this application....

you need something that dires very fast...

if you go to Radio Shack... you should be able to get hot glue gun, glue sticks... etc. for less than $10.... well worth it...

and yes.... cut slits to help it contour better...

hope it helps...

Hot glue is the ticket.

However, it may be tough to get the t-molding to stay around the corners w/ the hot glue.  I would recommend some fast setting epoxy for the corners which sets in about 5 min.  You can find the fast epoxy for about 2$ at a hardware store.

Good Luck.

Contact adhesive is the way to go, easy to use and very strong.
Trust me I'm a doctor.

Try the high temp hot glue for the corners (they have it all walmart)  It seems to set up faster.

Find the right Liquid Nails mix for rubber/wood and you're golden. That stuff will hold damn near anything.
