Hi guys, recently installed the IPac 2 in my cab and alls going well except on one side there seems to be a quite a delay between button presses and the action on screen, player 2 side seems to go better even though the wires are roughly the same length?
How long should you wires be from the joystick/buttons to the IPac unit?
My cabs wires are roughly just less than a metre to the Ipac and then the Ipac usb cable is probly about the same.
is this to long?
any other possible reasons for the delay?
thanks

mine were all 6' plus so it's not that check your grounds all over again.

Have you verified none of the buttons are stuck? I had this happen on one of my machines that uses an old computer and it was bad enough that it bogged down the whole thing. Button presses were really slow to respond and the games ran at like 5 frames per second. I initially thought I had a PC problem.

Wires would have to be in the 100s of feet to cause a delay and even that would not be noticeable so check that everything is wired correctly and there are no buttons wired nc instead of no. Does the ipac diagnostic run OK?

Thanks for the replies guys,
problem seemed to be with the buttons being bound to the Alt/Cntrl keys (default), my computer doesnt seem to like it.
Changed the top buttons to B,N,M and it functions fine theres no delay at all, it was like the Alt, Cntrl keys were staying pressed and not comming unpressed till i pressed them again, i checked all this in Winpac.
Cant seem to get my shifted keys to function now though?

The length thing is true if all you are considering is signal travel time, but the fact that it has to convert the signal to a given keystroke gives some room for delay (depending on the quality of software involved etc) doesn't it? I know on the console side at least that there are plenty of adapters for example (like ps2 to dreamcast or something for example) that don't have long cords, but introduce a noticeable lag. Perhaps not noticeable in some cases, but for people that play fighting games with 1 frame links for example you'll see a lot of complaining.
I was playing some some SFA3 the other day and I was also kind of wondering about lag (with a j-pac in my case) because I seemed to be dropping combo inputs that I normally wouldn't. I also have the j-pac bound to default controls, I wonder if that's why for me as well...

Could be dude, my Ipac doesnt like Alt,Shift, Cntrl.
since changing these to B,N,M i have had no probs at all.

I bet windows enabled their "help" mechanism and you didn't notice. If you repeatedly press a key 5 times, or sometimes hold it down for too long windows asks if you want to enable "sticky keys." I believe it's for disabled people or inept typers to aid in their ability to make capital letters and alt or ctrl commands.
I may be wrong, but it happens to me whenever i have to reformat or use the ipac on a different computer for some reason.

I thought it was this at first but i have all that disabled in ease of access.

The ipac and does not have a noticeable delay when operating correctly. The quality of the software in the ipac is very good so if you are dropping combo keys I would look at what else you have running or whether or not the mame or emulator that you are running is capable of full function with your CPU. Some programs do slow down as you upgrade mame to higher revs. Sorry I cannot comment on the jpac as I have not used one but I suspect it is based on the same hardware as the ipac for its main interface.

Its instant, or at least should be
How you gonna play Hypersports with a delay on the buttons? ;D

i thought ihad ipac lag once but the buttons were only activating on the depress for some reason @_@ i think i just put the wire onto a different sopt on the ipca to fix it

Do you have problems pressing all 3 punch/kicks at the same time on your J-pac. Could you try Zangief's spinning lariet?
Edit: Reason I ask is I had this issue with my J-Pac awhile ago. It seemed like certain buttons would come out first, then others... and it wouldn't register as a 3x simultaneous button press. It may have been an issue with my bios keyboard settings or windows xp though? It definitely wasn't the game/emulator though because it happened in Mame, FBA, & PC version of SF4. SF4 makes it very easy to see the key inputs that are coming in w/ training mode.
