Title: Contact paper on cabinets.
Post by: rlemmon on May 16, 2010, 08:45:39 am
Has anyone used contact paper on cabinets. Its cheaper than vinyl but i worry that it wouldnt stick sell enough. I also think it might peel around the edges. Thanks.

It's been done, but it's not durable.  I'd get the vinyl from Parts Express, it handles abuse pretty well.

Besides the lack of durability others mentioned, the contact paper bubbles up a lot, and peels where it's not held down by other means. Avoid it.

Although good in theory, contact paper tends to have fugly results. This is mainly as a result of people covering their whole cabs, including the control panel, in that awful marble effect you can get. However using a wood-like design for the side of your cabinet could turn out well, especially if you have good complimentary art on the rest of your cab (marquee, bezel etc.) :)
