Hi guys. I was playing Namco 20 Year Reunion Ms Pacman Galaga and every time a get a high score in galaga it freezes up on me. I dont know if it makes a difference but i have it set on rapid fire and fast shot speed. It does it every time for me.
Thanks guys.

just curious, but why is this even available in MAME? I have one of the actual units in my arcade I work at. its still commercially available

That's a bloody good question ... I would think that MAMEDevs would want to keep a lower profile since they are still available from distributors. I dunno if Namco is still selling them, so perhaps that was the criterion.

Why would you want to play it in MAME - why not stick to the games individually?

Namco is definitely still selling this unit. Like i said, i'm looking at the cabinet right now. its next to the pinballs in my work arcade. We got it brand new with our original game order back in June. and Namco also had it in their booth at the Amusement Expo in March with the new 4 player pacman cocktail table thats coming out in the fall.

I'm not sure why its available in mame. Maybe there was alot of request or they were able to get there hands on a free pcb. I had read here http://buyaclassicarcademachine.com/?p=588 (http://buyaclassicarcademachine.com/?p=588) that the ms pac-man galaga unit had been discontinued. They have the pac-man 25th Anniversary Edition out now so it would make sense. Im sure they manufactured a ton of them though and there still available from most distributors.

I am planning a vertical mame machine and I was thinking about doing a ms-pac galaga replica. I wanted to leave the rom running to make it look more official rather than just running a pac, ms pac or galaga rom.
Another reason is that there is no longer a speed chip version of galaga in mame. You have to use the cheat file which I'm not crazy about doin because I dont want to access the keyboard every time i want to play galaga.

Which makes me wonder... Is there a way to "save" the settings in the cheat menu so that when you restart the game it has everything already set up? The dip switches and difficulty setting have that option... why not the cheats?

There's a way to load a game with cheats already enabled - haven't done it in a long time, but I remember you have to edit the cheat file. I think you put a colon in front of the cheat you want always enabled or something like that. Of course, then you can't play the regular way without editing the cheat file again or disabling cheats. You should be able to set up a batch file of some sort through your front end to load the game with or without cheats I would think.
BTW, I think MisfitMame supports speed up Galaga if anyone's interested.

Hey guys a quick follow up: I reported the games issues to mametesters.org and they seem to have fixed everything. :applaud: :applaud: :applaud: :applaud: :applaud:
