I'm finally putting the finishing touches on refurbishing this old coin door, but the red coin return buttons are really squeaky (even after thorough cleaning). It's plastic on plastic (the black housings are plastic, even though most of the door is metal).
I did a bunch of searches and read Ken Layton's suggestions on lubes, but I'm not sure he ever directly referred to this kind of plastic on plastic situation. I bought the Radio Shack lube gel ("grease") from the Midway coin door thread and Super Lube Dri-Film Lubricant (from the WD-40 thread). I've tried the Dri-Film where the clear red button meets the black plastic. It lessened the squeak a little, but it's still there.
Should I clean the Dri-Film off and try the grease? Any other lube suggestions?
I have these rigged to be my credit buttons, so I'll be using them a lot.

lol, sorry but the subject of this post sounded kinda dirty...
i would go graphite or silicone for plastic on plastic.

anything would probably work.. grease, 3-in-1 oil, etc.
you could also try hitting them lightly with say 500 grit sand paper.. just to try and smooth the mating surfaces out.

Heh. Yeah, it does sound kind of dirty...
I guess I really can throw anything at it, as long as I can clean it. Since your fingers go in there, I've been wary of things like grease, since it may come off on your hands. But they squeak is even worse.

Soap is good for plastic on plastic. yes really...

I would use some spray silicon just as I have a can handy. It worked great on my squeaky Guitar Hero guitar strum bar.

Andy -- I can't believe how well that worked. Just the tiniest bit of handsoap. Squeak gone. Thanks!

I use a light film of Lubriplate on the buttons.

Ken Layton! Thanks for stopping by!
I'll give the Lubriplate a shot too.
