Title: Converting Projection TV into Arcade
Post by: Griff08 on May 15, 2010, 07:49:53 pm
Hey All,

Does anyone remember seeing some of the old Capcom fighters or maybe the old X-Men arcade game which was in essence a big projection TV which sat on a platform?  Then sticking up in front on the platform were the arcade controls.

What is the name of such a cabinet, and where can I find some plans?  I have a 53 in projection Sony Tv that I would love to convert into an arcade cabinet.  It has a 4x3 aspect ratio, so it should handle any old school emulation well.

Thanks for your help!

I think he means more like the Sega Megalo2. :)

Those are all excellent examples of a big ole' projection TV in use in an arcade.  The Tekken 4 cab is probably the closest to what I had in mind.

I think if I could build some kind of set of free standing controls like seen with the Tekken Cab, then I could integrate that with my TV.

That awesome rocking cab with the bench is pretty awesome too :)  I have seen those before, and that might not be a bad idea either, considering the monster size of this TV.

Specs and plans for any of these might help me decide which design to tackle.

Well, the problem with the Megalo2 is it's a candycab, all ABS or PVC or something like that.

However if you google you can find flyers for Sega's various candycabs which do feature measurements and such.  Not sure how precise they are though since they were more measurements to allow operators to determine how much floor space the rigs would use.

that xmen cabinet actually had two smaller monitors side by side, one was a direct view monitor, the other was mounted facing up and reflected off of a mirror.  that way they could offset the distance between the two monitors so there was no gap between them....very cool.

That X-Men Console is a beast!  Weighing in with six controls!

Does anyone have any plans or specs for a bench based controller that could be sat in front of my TV much like the Megalo?  Two Player?  Four Player?
