alright, i download the NES screens in .png form from stuzza's site (thanks!) and have them in a folder, and have typed in the name of it in the Artwork #1 slot in mamewah v954b. i am running win98 SE and have mame32 as well. anyway, the screens will not show up. one thing i noticed is that when i took a snapshot myself, and went to the screenshots folder where all the other ones were...the one i took was made a .bmp file as the others i downloaded were in .png form. does this matter. if so, what can i do to fix it?

The file type e.g. bmp, png etc.. does not matter. What does matter is that the names of your roms match exactly the names of the screenshots. I'd say that they are not displaying because your nes roms are not in the goodtools names. Use GoodNES to rename them and they should show up.

okay so i download this program and rename my roms? well why cant i just rename them myself by right clicking...etc.?
also, while im on this subject, can i rename my mame roms as well as put them in any order i want? for instance, i have MK1, 2, 3. however, in my list it shows...
Mortal Kombat 1
Mortal Kombat 3
Mortal Kombat II
see the problem? can i get it to where i can change the name of it to Mortal Kombat 2? do i need a program to do this?
also, the same thing is happening for my snes emulator (zsnes) and im sure it will do the same for other games. do i need other programs to handle the same problems for other emus?

okay i downloaded GoodNES and started messing around with it, but i cant figure out how to work the stiupid thing. i downloaded that zilb.dll file and can get into the GoodNES program in the command prompt, but i cant figure out how to list games, scan games, etc. i see the problem about screenshots not being the same name and all that, and i thought about just renaming the games manually, which would take a while, but it would work wouldn it? if somebody could give me some help using goodnes i would appreciate it.

You could do it by hand, but this would be a very long and tedious way of doing it. GoodNES will rename your entire rom set in a matter of seconds and ensure they are exactly the right names.
If you are having the same problem with your SNES set, simply use goodSNES to rename the roms, just as you used goodNES on the nintendo ones. All the goodTools programs work pretty much the same way. I'd recommend using goodwin (a gui frontend for goodtools) as it is simpler to use - if you prefer gui's to command lines like most people ;)
As for the naming of the Mame set and the game numbering problem, I havn't played with this myself, so I don't know. I'm sure one of the gurus around here will be able to answer that for you.

alright, i got that goodwin thing going and renamed my roms fine. just so you know, i downloaded your NES and SNES screens :) anyway, i get some NES screens to show up fine, and some dont show up. i looked at my rom names and some are different names than yours. i have like the [o1] instead of [!] at the beginning. im not really sure what this has to do with SOME of my screens not showing up, but i know it has something to do with it. how can i fix this?

The sets I created were only for the main USA, Japan, Europe etc... (that are listed on my site). I did not do "hacks", "overdumps" and a few of the other types of roms as these are just bad versions of the original. I tried to do only the main roms to make life easier on myself :) . The [o1] I believe means USA and overdump so therefore would not be picked up by my NES set as I never created a screenshot for it. So you'll need to copy the screenshot for say [!] and rename to fit the [o1] versions you have.

gotcha. alright, now one more question...when i push f12 for a snapshot in VirutaNES, it takes a snap shot but when i go to the folder where they appear...yours are .png files and the pic that i just took is a .bmp file and has some crazy name. like for AD&D Hillsfar for instance...its like AD&D10023905~~.bmp something like that, thats not really what it is but its all crazy like that. is there a way to simplify this?

I did all my NES screenshots using FCEUltra. It names the snaps as 1.png, 2.png etc.. which is not a great help. Basically I just ran FCEUltra in a small window in the middle of the screen, then kept a window open on either side of it - one for my roms directory and one for the screenshot files that were being saved. Then all I did was manually copy the rom name across to the png file. It was a pain in the butt at first, but I actually got quite fast at it!! ;D

okay, i got some of them to work, im just going to have to manually do it. thanks for the help though.

alright i took snaps of all my snes games and put them in a folder. i go back to mamewah, and refresh the list....and about 7 or 8 games have screenshots and the rest dont. i only have about 25 games or so. but the weird thing is, its not like games 1-5 have screenshots...its like game 1, 4, 9, 10, 15..etc. like mario kart has a screen shot, act raiser does, and zelda. so they are all spread out. but what i dont get is why the others dont work. they were all done at the same time. i went in and renamed all my zip files and images so that they would match, and i did it the same way for all my games, but for some reason, only some of it works. whats the deal?
