Does anyone know how to do this? I found somewhere on the internet that this was something in the service menu on most models. Can someone help me out?

try holding down the power button while plugging it in.
if it turns on, then just wedge the button down, or open it up and solder the button leads to create a short so it's always "pressed" (according to the TV)
if it still doesn't turn on... you may have to get electronically creative.

If you buy one of those smart power strips they will allow the tv to be turned on when you turn on the PC provided you plug it in the right socket. I bought one at Microcenter for $29 and it works very well. The only thing to be concerned with is to make sure your tv turns on to the same video input as it was using when it was shut down. Most tv's do this nowadays so it shouldn't be a big issue.

All that is fine .... IF .... the TV powers on after power interruption.
i.e. Turn TV on, unplug from wall, plug back into wall.... does TV automatically turn back on?
You may also be able to solder a capacitor across the power switch.

Holding the button down will not work for some, but not all TVs. Some TVs require q 'pulsed' on switch, one that is pressed then released. For some TVs, you have apply mains power and then wait a second or two before pressing the power button to turn it on.
Peale's cap trick might work for some TVs, but bear in mind that Peale designed the trick for PCs, not TVs, and the voltages etc may be different from TV to TV. So use with caution & open mind.
There is no one solution for all TVs. In one case I just gave up and extended the power switch to a separate power button I installed, which was discreet but accessible from the outside of the cab. Now I'm really happy with that arrangement because it makes it easy to turn the TV off, but leave your game paused etc.
