Title: Happ optical joystick & optipac problem?
Post by: mrlee on May 12, 2010, 01:50:23 pm
Hi guys

Hope someone could help maybe?

Ive had my cab built for over a year now and have decided to add a couple of happ rotary (optical) joysticks in to it

Theres already a track ball and optipac in there, following a thread on here ive connected the wires from
the joystick to the optipac as follows -

brown 5v
orange GND
red X1
yellow X2

the wires for the actual joystick go back  to the Ipac as normal..

Now the joysticks working fine (ish.. get to that bit in a mo) but the rotary doesnt work at all, no mouse movement etc
ive taken off the encoder and adjusted the position etc but still nothing.

Also the joystick doesnt seem to make contact with the micro switches very well at all, its like they are in the wrong
positions for the stick to strike them properly.

Anyone else come across any of these problems??

only fitted one joystick so far to start with

Thanks in advance

Thankyou for that!!

At last a bit of progress!

Ok im now getting a bit of movement, when I test it in Ikari I get the following -

1) Character only rotates in 1 direction (to the right) even if you turn the stick left he goes right!

2) only Turns 1 position and then returns back to the original position

If in windows I turn the stick left or right the mouse does move, but to the left!

Hope that makes sense, im gonna have another good look at the wiring again tonight as some of the wires that connect to the optical encoder look very thin

Are there any settings in mame that need to be made though?

Thankyou for you help, much appreciated!

Looked like the connector block was a bit dodgy which has been removed and the wires soldered onto the pins.

It does work to an extent now where I can spin it left or right correctly but with out any input its moving on its own!

**EDIT**

Fixed.. Mouse sensitivity and 'precision' settings in windows!
