Title: LED Controller?
Post by: xar256 on July 31, 2003, 01:37:07 pm
Somebody posted an idea a few months ago about creating a LED controller board and program that when setup properly could assign certain LEDS on your control panel to light up?

<ie. you have a 6 button configuration and are playing a game that only uses 4 buttons.  the program would be triggered to light up only the 4 buttons you use during this game, and the rest stay off>

Did anything ever come of this?  Does anybody remember this?  I've looked all morning and haven't had any luck finding and info or who posted it.

Oscar has the construction of a LED board on his site, I don't remember who had the software for the led controler. I can remember that it was going to run via batch file...so your FE would need to have the ability to run batch files.

DinoRoger was working on that.

Still listed as a future project. He had a screen shot posted a while showing off the interface application. Good luck finding the link.

And DinoRoger hasn't been posting around here for quite a while. I suppose if you really care, you could try emailing him.

Man, I want that!!!   My CP is gonna be confoosing otherwise.

Of course, it would require a parseable list of all games and what panel controls they use.    :P    Think that'd take a while, esp. if rom/game names change, and it has to support clones too.   :(

Best way to bring the light to the panel buttons would be fiber optic cable.  Then the big honkin' array of LEDs can be somewhere else, and you can use tiny ones or even prepackaged LED banks.

If I had any idea how to go about programming a custom windows applet to output to parallel port, I might try it.

SirPoonga and I are working on something to control LEDs, relays and all kinds of stuff from a USB interface.  This would be one of the possible applications for the hardware...  Stay tuned...  ;)
