Title: good cab for golden tee?
Post by: tinsley on May 10, 2010, 10:16:52 pm
i have a golden tee conversion installed in a MKII cab. It is not a good cab for this game. People keep hitting the screen due to how close it is to the trackball. I picked up a golden tee cab, but it has a lot of water damage. more then i care to fix. i can't seem to find another one close to me (looking for just the cab) so what is a good cab to throw golden tee in? thanks in advance...

If you really want this original game so bad it would be best to sell up what you got, keep the funds safe and wait til a complete one does come up. Ebay UK is usually littered with them as they were always found in pubs and clubs as the 'grown-ups' choice of arcade game as the scene died.

It'd be a lot of hassle to move just one game to yet another cabinet not intended for the game and wouldn't be worth ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- if you sold it that way, so sell all your parts/cabs separate and wait for a working original cabinet to come up, or as this is BYOAC, build one in a similar styleee with a few more controls and go down the emulation route....

Maybe a NBA Jam / Hangtime cab? If memory serves I thought the CP was bigger due to having the 4 player layout on it. If thats the case you might even be able to just get a CP of it since I believe the core of the cab is the same.

I could be wrong though...

I'd lump that in with the "bad" designs. You want a roomy panel, and preferably a more laid back monitor angle. None of the good Golden Tee games (Fore! and later) are in MAME yet.

If you have an operator nearby, you might be able to find a dead one in a dedicated cab. The problem with these is that they still make money and there are conversions like Silver Strike and that dumb beanbag game available for them, so the prices stay a little high.

I paid $250 for this semi stripped one. The cab was complete except for the dollar bill acceptor (even the LED topper is up there and works, its just folded down in the picture), but the monitor chassis had been priated and the power supply was dead.

Pricey for a dead game, but this is the definitive Golden Tee cab to me, and I don't think they don't look right in anything else. Some of the operators can be real idiots, but you may find a good local one listed in the yellow pages under amusements. I had to drive about 2 hours for this one. The upside was that I got that complete and totally working Soul Edge for $125.

Lol, that "dumb bean bag game" is the best trackball game out there!!!  That and Lawn darts.  Much more amusing on a drunken Friday night than golden tee ever was...

What is the name of the bean bag game?

Its usually referred to as "Bags" but the actuall name is bag toss or something like that.  The other good one is "Lawn darts", and if you're really lucky you would own one of those new putt putt games that is played on the widescreen HD tv's.  None of those roms are currently available on MAME.  (But you can download bags for your wii...)
