Ok, so I am building a standard 6 button cp and despite all the threads I have read, I cannot figure out what the standard is for connecting the buttons to my ipac.
I know that in MAME you can change the button to be whatever you want, but to eliminate some of that hassle is there an optimal way to specify which button is 1-6?
I was thinking is it this...
0 1 2 3
| 4 5 6
or
0 1 3 5
| 2 4 6
or
0 1 2 5
| 3 4 6
or something else?

well honestly although this makes no sense to me when i think of a 6 button layout..
456
123
would be the most useful default layout.. that is to say the layout that needs the least reconfiguring per game.
however
123
456
makes more logical sense.
for 4 button games i'd go with
12
34
the reason i say
456
123
is the best default is most games are 1-3 buttons
it would be more comfortable i think if you used the lower buttons for those games.
anyway you look at it you'll probably be configuring by hand often.
me personally would'nt bother me because when ever i play a game for the first time i like setting up the dips and exploring the service menu.. so it's not much of a bother for me.

I use
456

That works the best for most games (easier to use the bottom buttons than the top).
The only drawback with hooking up this way is that you'll need to reconfigure all of the Capcom games manually to get the punch and kick right.

Ok thanks guys. That makes sense. I knew there had to be some strategy to this.
SOunds like either way I'll be doing reconfiguration for most games.
I guys my problem is I don't know what orientation most games had typically, so it'll be hard to configure correctly.
Is there any source that specifying control orientation for specific games? I guess I was trying to wire it so that it would be "correct" for most games. ... sigh ... nothings ever easy.

Mine are wired

I prefer my primary buttons being on the top row.
And while you can remap the keys in the IPAC software, it's just easier to go with the default keys.
