Title: Drunken Lizard's Build
Post by: drunkenlizard on May 04, 2010, 02:08:05 pm
Well after many years of lurking I've decided to start building my machine. Bought plans for an ultimate arcade II a while ago so I figured I'd start with those and make changes as needed.

I'll be using an old 27in sony trinitron I've been tripping over for years as my monitor.

Brought my tools to work last week, materials are readily available and I actually have room unlike the garage.

Built the base out of 5/8 in particleboard with a hardwood veneer, I work for a plywood company at our factory direct outlet. These were damaged sheets I got for almost free.

The top of the cab will be built using a combicore material (veneer core and mdf plys)

Well I received my slot cutting bit and arbor for routing out the tmolding slot. Setup my router and got the depth centered using a piece of scrap. Only issue is I forgot that I had placed the front panels a little close to the edge...

So I found my screws rather quickly and manged to break off one of the teeth on the router bit  :dizzy:

Luckily I didn't catch it in the face, but I'm feeling rather foolish at this point.

Good luck with the build! Sux about the bit...it happens to all of us.  Looks like that scrap ply might be cherry  :dizzy:

Yep, Cherry and some Alder pieces as well, was tempted to just finish the wood till my friend drew a reference line across one of the sides with a sharpie. So this is getting painted.

I work for a hardwood plywood manufacturer and manage our factory direct outlet. So I have access to some pretty nice stuff.

I'll make my mistakes with this cab and the next one will be pretty.
