Title: soft 15 (interlaced) and act-lab light guns
Post by: tony.silveira on May 02, 2010, 06:33:33 am
hi all,

i recently installed soft 15 to get my arcade monitor to display 1024x768 (at 84hz).  i did so so that i don't have to switch resolutions when playing on my projector, been loving it!

i went to play a lightgun game, calibrated my act-lab guns but noticed the aim is WAY off.  i'm assuming this is because my arcade monitor is now displaying an interlaced signal which causes havoc with the way the gun tries to read it.

can anyone with an act-lab gun confirm that that's the case, they don't play nice with interlaced?  if so, any suggestions?

if they in fact don't work accurately with an interlaced display, i'm think ultimarc's light gun mod kit will fix my issue?

thanks for any feedback

I don't have the vga guns, I have the svid ones, but I can still confirm that this is your issue.  By the very definition of how lightguns work, the refresh rate must be constant and supported by the device for accurate results.  Using an artificial method of cutting the refresh rate down is going to mess with the drivers and possibly even the hardware itself.

The lightgun mod might fix it, but with any mods it's never guaranteed to work, so you'll have to try it.
