Title: For want of a belt
Post by: SavannahLion on May 02, 2010, 02:32:24 am
My Future Wife's favorite DVD recorder (Samsung DVD-R120) simply refused to open the door/tray one day. So I agreed to take a look at it. After fiddling around a bit, as near as I can figure the belt is finally worn out. If I remove the DVD drive cover (with the magnetic disc) from the equation, the drive functions perfectly. Replace the cover, and it refuses to open.

I believe the strength of the magnet is too much for the worn belt to overcome.

So... where might I source a replacement belt?

Note, this isn't a computer drive. It's an actual DVD player/recorder deck.

Search ebay for DVD-R120... there are some 'as-is' and some that need work... you may be able to pick one of them up dirt cheap to use as parts.

That or a big honkin rubber band might work.

I just used a bicycle brake cable to fix the seat back release mechanism in my wife's bmw. The dealer wanted more than 100+ to even look at it

a layer of electricians tape on the magnet could be enough to overcome the force causing it to stick.

MCM has some belts for electronics like this. Check with the to see if they have what you need.
