I bought an original Tempest coin door on Ebay. I want to restore it and use it on my COWBOY ARCADE (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=90385.0). I have some questions I am hoping you all can answer...
1. What is this little leaf switch with a weight on it on the upper left side of the door?
2. What are these solenoid things near the middle of each coin comparator? They are not attached to the comparator.

3. Do these counters count the number of coins that have gone through each comparator? If so, how can I wire them to work with new coin mechs?
4. What is this "test" switch for?

1. Is a slam/tilt switch ..... kills the game if someone is beating on the door.
2. Is a lockout coil ..... when power is off on the machine it rejects all coins so no-one loses their money in a machine that is turned off.
3. The coin counters do count all coins inserted into the machine, usually require external power source, some are 12v, some are 24v. There's write-ups around on how they can be wired to existing coin switches. They're not "needed".
4. The test switch would put the game into Test Mode to check for errors, switches, settings, etc.
What kind of system are you planning to use this coin door with ? MAME ?
(I did not read your whole other thread)
Cool artwork though. But should have been done in Crimson & Cream. ;)

I'm going to use it with a MAME system. I don't need the functions of these items, but wanted to make sure I wasn't removing something important. I will probably try to wire in the counters as that could be a cool thing to know as time goes by.
Thanks for the response and the comment on the art.

Next question....
I started taking this thing apart and the Coin Slot/Reject buttons and the Coin return bezels are really rough. I would like to replace them. Tried the Suzo Happ site and can't really find anything that looks the same.
Does anyone know where I can get these parts? Or who made these coin doors originally?
Thanks

I have Atari coin doors on my cabs, but I suspect they are similar. Mine were nasty when I started, but, after scrubbing and repainting, they look really nice! The coin reject buttons may be available for some coin doors, but my guess is that it would be easier to use a cleaning product like Novus to get it as close as possible.
Good luck!

The upper bezels are broken and one of the coin reject buttons is missing the top piece that covers the insert. So I am gong to have to replace with something, just hoping to get as close to original as possible.
Thanks

AHHHH, missing/broken are different than "rough" IMO. Mine were rough in that the paint was pealing and there was gum inside the coin reject button.

You are so right. My bad. By "rough" I meant that the broken bits were sticking out and in danger of cutting my finger :)

Here is a link that has some coin door parts, not sure it will work for you though

finding the old slot and eject pieces will be difficult, but the coin mechanisms themselves haven't changed much over the years. just the materials they are made from. and they are pretty much universal. Most games use the Happ mechs on them. I successfully swapped a modern plastic coin mechanism into an old metal typer token machine at work that was made like 40 years ago and it works like a charm. Just snapped right into place.
