Hoping someone can help me out but I just found a Ripley's pin here where I work that has no sticker on it for a local rep. Unfortunately the pin is not working at the moment and I want to try it out. It is in one of the rec rooms here where and likely has taken a beating due to morons. The machine is powered up and all the lights are on as far as I can tell but the DMD has nothing. It also has no sounds right now. It has probably been running for quite some time without ever being powered off so I am wondering if powering off and back on may reset something. Not sure but I thought I would ask.
I am going to try and track down the local rep but I believe it may be owned outright since there is no contact information on it. If I get lucky it may be owned by the place I work and they may just want it gone instead of dealing with repairing it. Needless to say I am keeping my fingers crossed that they want it gone. The pin is in AMAZING shape overall with no playfield wear whatsoever and the exterior looks fabulous. The more I look at it the more I think it has been broken for a long time and no one cares about it. Well I care and want it. Would make a great fist pin for me.
Any ideas about the DMD or possible issues I would appreciate the information.

I'd check the high voltage power supply for the DMD. Rarely does a DMD die and not show at least some flickering. It could also be a bad ribbon cable and or the DMD controller not running. Up until the SAM system, all Data East/Sega/Stern games use a DMD controller that is it's own CPU and interacts with the MPU through a ribbon cable. If the game is rebooted and the DMD shows its software version, but then goes blank, the high voltage power supply certainly is working. Also, a lack of 12v can cause certain brands of DMDs not to light up. Since you say there is no sound, either the volume is turned down, the speakers are unplugged, or there is a problem with the audio amp circuit.

I bet the 5v fuse is blown.

I turned the machine off today and when I did I heard a sound from the speakers so the volume seems correct. If the 5v fuse is blown therefore making the DMD not work would it in essence shut down the system? I dropped a quarter in for the hell of it and got no indication that it registered at all. All lighting on steady and np blinking anywhere, backglass is lit and everything else seems fine. I am still tracking down who owns it and have made it clear that if they are not going to fix it I want it. We'll see what they say about it LOL. I might get one hell of a deal on this but you never know.

Well I have a truck, dolly and some cash. We'll have to see about the last one LOL keeping my fingers crossed.
I looked at it more today though. All the rubbers need replacing and are badly dry rotted. But there is NO dirt in the playfield anywhere. This game is sitting in a laundry room in a dormitory next to a coke machine. I think I am going to be nauseous think about it sitting so lonely and unplayable. If a deal does not pan out no biggie but if it does then I will feel really good about no doubt.

So that's how you get all of these cut-rate pins PBJ. :laugh2:

Oh I can believe how tempting it is. However now that I have notified someone that I want it I become suspect if it disappears ;D Mark my words, it will be mine. Oh yes, it will be mine >:D

With the machine being in a humid laudry room, could it be getting moisture inside causing some of the problems?
-
The effects of humidity are frequently overstated. Qbert lives on the coast and I doubt he's ever had any issues with it. I've got a couple EMs in a garage on the coast and they're not even getting rusty.
It depends. I live in an area with an average humidity between 70-95%...I'm literally about a quarter of a mile from the bay. The only issues I've had is some minor corrosion on untreated/nonplated metals. It affects painted backglasses the most, but that wouldn't affect this RBION, it has a translite.

Still waiting on an answer on whether I get this pin or not. I called someone about it and expecting a return call later today. Hoping for the best

Oh well. It was not meant to be. Turns out the pin was purchased using methods that would not allow its sale. Had to try. Maybe I can at least convince them to fix it.

...........
damn drug dealers...
i've been trying to think of an instance where you could buy something and then not be able to sell it again??? not working for me... unless a bunch of people went in on it... and no longer work there.. i dunno.
it was worth the shot though.
