Title: Iron Man 2
Post by: danny_galaga on April 29, 2010, 05:57:25 am

Oh dear...

3/5. Very good effects, especially at the Monaco Vintage Grand Prix.

I don't know if this the same director as the first one, if so, they've taken their eye off the ball.

If you go see it, there is yet another teaser after the credits...

Quote
my score for recent movies you may have seen:

5/5 - Michael Clayton, In Bruges, Gran Torino, Mary and Max

4.5/5 - Taken, Iron Man, Reign Over Me

4/5 - Traitor, Bedtime Stories, Sunshine, pineapple express

3.5/5 - 300, Max Payne, You dont mess with the Zohan, Yes Man

3/5 - That new Indiana Jones flick, Disturbia, That new TMNT flick,

2.5/5 - Angels and Demons

2/5 - The Love Guru. Note: My 2 is probably someone elses 1. Just leaving room for worse!

I really thought the first one got boring after the first 30 minutes.

I thought it was great throughout, though the sequel doesn't look near as good.

Why "Oh dear" DG?  3/5 is a passing grade, no?

You forget that his rating system is off by at least 1 from most other rating systems.  He rated Iron Man 2 in the same classification as the new Indiana Jones movie which would be an "Oh dear" in my books as well.  I learned long ago that I often completely disagree from Danny's reviews, and early reviews on RottenTomatoes look promising, so I'm still hopeful.

Same director , Jon Favreau. He always does a tiny bit part in his flicks. He played Happy Hogan in the first IronMan (limo driver) and apparently reprises the role in this one. I thought the first IronMan was a 5, I have huge hopes and will judge form myself just like I did the Clash remake.

I was trying to think of a way to scale what I thought into his but its too varied.....

Michael Clayton was a 5, Gran Turino was not (a solid 4)
Taken was a 4.5 but IronMan was a 5
300 was at least a 4, same with Max Payne. Zohan was a 2.5 on a good day and Yes Man was a 3
Indiana Jones 4 was a 2.5 tops, TMNT was a 4

I didnt see anything else on his list to compare to.

Strange isn't it? 3 / 5 sounds good enough, but 6 / 10 sounds a lot more mediocre, yet it's the same score.

Yeah, but just. You'll notice I gave the first Iron Man 4.5/5...

So whatever you think of my way of reviewing movies, I obviously enjoyed the first a lot more than the second.

I think one of the negatives was the witty reparte. It was so tedious this time around. And i just didn't get Sam Rockwells character. Micky Rourkes was easy to get into...

I dont like Sam Rockwell at all, I think hes terrible. But Mickey Rourke is awesome, Im hopin they cancel each other out. I really hope IronMan doesnt get Batman syndrome :/

EDIT:He was good in Matchstick Men and Heist. Heist of course being one of my fave movies.

Sam Rockwell is awesome. Period.

Check out Robin's Big Date where he plays Batman (alongside Justin Long as Robin).

Yeah, I don't know what to think of him. Matchstick men was great, I had a bias against him in HHGTTG, since Zaphod will always be Mark Wing Davey in my mind...

He was also really good in Moon, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, and Galaxy Quest.

Rockwell was surprisingly really good in this. I saw this yesterday, thought it was great. Since the first was a SOLID 5, I have to give this one a 4.5 instead. It was pretty funny and more action packed. I thought the scene with Howard Stark was quite touchy and surreal, the guy who got that role freakin ACED it.

Other then some cheese and sometimes when the iron man suits looked fake I cant really say anything bad about the flick. giving it a 3 is a bit of an insult IMO.

I took the whole family and everybody had a great time.  The only complaint was that it was not as good as the first one.  No surprise there as the first one set the bar pretty high.  Great popcorn movie.

I was beginning to think i was the only one who didn't think too highly of this. A woman at work told me her husband and sons when to see it and none of them were very impressed either. If I'm off the mark, I'm not the only one  ;D

Very disappointed with the soundtrack.. being comprised entirely of AC/DC...

Sorry, but not everyone is into classic rock

Until now, ACDC has never had a 'best of' album. I think they prided themselves on that. Now they have one in the form of a soundtrack. So they can still say they haven't put a 'best of' album out  ;D

Do you mean the CD you can buy or the music in the movie? because in the movie it wasnt all AC/DC.

"Should I stay or should I go?" and "The Magnificent Seven" are by the Clash
"California Love" was Dr.Dre and Tupac
"Another One Bites the Dust" is Queen
and they had "It takes two" by rob base

those were the only songs I could remember and name. The only 2 AC/DC songs I remember in the movie were Highway to Hell and Shoot to Thrill.

I saw Iron Man three times at the cinema, and i thought it was really good.

I like Iron Man 2, but it seemed to be more Tony Stark than Iron man.

I'm referring to the soundtrack available on CD...

Wow, now I REALLY don't want to see this movie.

Good, I dont want you to see it either! /?

The soundtrack has never meant much to me, the movie itself usually does. If hearing the clash play in the background for 10 seconds can make you not wanna see a movie, you have issues.

I saw the movie last night and I enjoyed it. I agree it is not as good as the first but still solid. As a chemist I was rolling my eyes when Tony Stark invented a new element but I usually have to ignore movie science anyway.

Not as a good as the first, but still pretty good. I liked that there was more Tony Stark and less Iron Man. Needed even more Avengers stuff, though!

Sam Rockwell stole the show!

That's the single most irritating and ignorant thing a person can say in response to an artistic creation like that.

unnecessary hate for the win... ;)

if I had a kid and the skill to make a video like that, I would do it too.

I just hate babies. There, I said it.

What I mean is I hate when they have babies do stuff they can't really do. I put it in the category of talking animal movies.

Obviously there's talent behind the video, I just wish they'd used it in a better way.
