Title: MaximumPC Article
Post by: Fordman on April 26, 2010, 03:25:37 pm
This may be old news to some, but as I was sitting in a Barnes and Noble, reading a MaximumPC magazine, there is a huge story about MAME, MALA FE and the whole BYOAC hobby! It is dated Sept 2009 online but the magazine has a Feb-Mar 2010 date (I know, most magazines run 45-60 days ahead). Some of the comments are a little, lets say, newbie-ish!  ::)

Just thought I'd share if it hasnt already been shared!

I remember reading it and thought I had read a thread about it here before.  Turns out, I posted it.  I must be getting old because I didn't remember that detail.

DOH!   :banghead:

They have the magazine on the discount rack for a $1.00 so I bought it. Usually its a $12.00 magazine. I think it once came with a CD or something with some trial software or free fullware but the CD and wrapper is missing.

The subscription fee is a lot cheaper than buying it off the rack.  I think it's less than $2 an issue.  But I don't get the CD.

I stopped reading MaximumPC a while ago. It sunk too low, they got rid of my favorite features, and the CDs haven't had anything good on them in ages.

The arcade cab article I did read. Not overly interesting though; he built it from a kit. That and I'm not really into cocktails.

They do seem to rehash the same articles quite a bit.  Once you learn how to mount your motherboard and install rails on your drives, you don't need to see that every 9 months....

They did have a good article on a byo multitouch surface computer.  I don't mind renewing my subscription when it's just a couple of bucks per issue.  More than that, I wouldn't do it.
