Title: Nintendo DS games for ARCADE cab?
Post by: shateredsoul on April 25, 2010, 05:46:10 pm
So I figured out how to run some games on my computer through my frontend so far, I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions? I'm looking for platformers, arcade like games, fighters (do any exist on the ds?), puzzle games, and pretty much anything that will play well on joysticks.

I am using no$gba with no$zoomer

My list so far (it will change as I test games and find out if I like the games)

Meteos
nanostray 1 and 2
Dig Dug - Digging Strike
Sonich Rush
Tetris DS
Space Invaders Extreme 1 and 2
Kirby - Squeak Squad
Contra 4
Kirby Super Star Ultra
Henry Hatsworth
Legendary Starfy
Space Bust A move
New Super Mario Bros
N+
Yoshi's Island DS
Peggle
Metal Slug 7

Maybe

Phoenix Wright series

IMPORT

Ketsui - Death Label

Space Invaders Extreme 2 (Taito, 2009) Nintendo DS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0w9AW9T3PA#)

The Phoenix Wright games, while too long and drawn for an arcade machine, can use only joysticks and buttons.

Sonich Rush
Tetris DS
Space Invaders Extreme 1 and 2

N+
N+
N+!

Did I say N+? what an awesome game that truly is and perfect for cabs. In fact I may get DS emulation running on my cab just for it.

Peggle is cab friendly & Highly addictive (You have been warned)

I havent played it for more than 2 minutes but I think metal slug 7 is cool for cabs.

There is some pretty decent homebrew stuff too - Manic Miner Lost Levels is very good and cab friendly.

I didnt know that decent DS emulators existed. What are you pc specs like?

my specs for my pc desktop are pretty crazy but it runs just as well on my laptop that has a core duo 1.86hz and 2 gbs of ram, I'm using no$gba

I think I'll also add new super mario bros to the list

I should warn everyone though, although no$gba runs most games.. some games have horrible scratchy sound.

I use DeSMuMe. Needs a good spec system, though.

Can desmume do fullscreen?

I remember that's why I didn't use it, it had a fullscreen option on the dev. versions, but the control bars were visible at the top.

Ginsu, can you give some info on what version of desmume you're using and how you set it up?

Contra 4 is the entire reason I have NDS on my arcade cab.  And it's awesome.

i do this with an Athlon 2000+ (1.8GHz) and 512MB RAM. it`s not a lot more demanding than gameboy advance.

Metal Slug for the DS ran choppy though. i`d rather just play the first few games on NeoGeo anyway.

thanks for the game suggestions on this thread. i didn`t know there was a version of N!

and it turns out that the guy who was working on this no$gba stopped work on it about a year ago, and people have heard form him since.  Weird, maybe the Nintendo mafia got him.  Seriously though, hope he's ok.  But this means for us that if the games don't work, take them out or try desmume (I can't over the toolbars though.. they bug me)

i'm pretty sure it had something to do with people bugging him to make his emulator do fullscreen :)

We diddent use touchscreen nor All buttond on these 3 homebrew games I have created music for (hence cabfriendly):

- warhawk ds (remake of c64 classic from one of the same programmer).
- Manic miner - lost level (was a lots of fun creating music for this game, 37 songs), so thanks
- the detective game

personal I think it's much better to play on real hardware with a homebrew card, and not on the arcade.

There is also a pengo homebrew which is in a closed beta, but not from the same team (but I cannot tell anything more about it, since it's unannonced.
