Hi, I have a Mortal Kombat 2 game housed in a Gauntlet cab, and I want to upgrade the sound.
How would I set this up? The speakers now run right to one of the pcbs. I'm not tech-y, so I would like some much needed help!
Also, there is no volume control knob, I have to go into diagnostics to raise volume, only to have it reset when the machine turns off. Are these simple to install?
Thanks

if your game isnt saving the settings you might need to change the CMOS battery.
-
hmmm....any links to help explain how this is done? It doesn't save high scores either, if that matters.

Yep, your CMOS battery is definitely dead.
-
When I get home I can take a pic, but the gist is you change the round grey battery on the main board. It's a cake walk.

Cool, I'll check it out
any ideas on the speaker situation? The ones in there are good, but I'd like to add a little subwoofer. What's the best way to go about that?
Thanks for the help

You're better off just replacing the speakers with better ones. If memory serves MKII ran the DCS sound system which is just amplified MONO, so the results wouldnt be worth the effort , in my opinion.
-
Yes, it uses DCS. All I'd really want is a little extra thud when playin, but not quite sure how to go about hookin up a subwoofer
The wires from the speakers run right into the soundboard and I don't want the sub to fry anything.
-
My guess is, if you want to do it, you would need to splice into the speaker wires, run to an amp, and drive the woofer off an amp.
-
That's what I thought, but if I splice em, and run em into an amp to tthe sub, is there any chance of frying anything originally in the cabinet?
That's my biggest concern
-
I honestly don't know.
I replaced the speakers in my MK with better speakers, and I now get a decent thump while playing.
-
Might look into that, but def want to try the sub too. I'll try to see if I can find anything.
If anyone has done this, some tips would be greatly appreciated. :)
-
k, well 2 people are telling you to not bother with the sub and just get better speakers, so if you ---fudgesicle--- up your cab its on you.
As for the CMOS battery, its the round thing near the DIP switches.

You may have to remove the daughter board if you cant get to it, but I popped it off with no issues without doing so.

Yea, changin cmos shouldn't b a problem. I would really like to try for a sub tho, but can't find any good info on what/how to do it. I'm gonna leave it alone instead of trying to splice the wires. Seems that would drive power from sub into the soundboard regardless of an amp for it.
-
The amp on the sound board won't be able to drive a sub. However, there is a line level output available (I think it's labeled line in or something like that, but as the board is built for MK2, it is effectively a line out) that you could run into a powered sub.
This is a stock cabinet? I found the speaker Midway supplied to be pretty decent for what it was tasked with reproducing.
-
Not exactly stock, it was a Gauntlet cab, and refurbished for MK2, everything looks stock from the Gauntlet cab, as far as speakers go.
-
Well, checked cmos....dead as a doornail. Replaced and works great now....now for the sub. My bro has a sub with an amp, not sure how to go about hooking it up
