Daphne's joystick support sucks. That's one reason why I'm happy to see Mame start supporting all the LD games. If it doesn't register, then you're SOL. Switch to a keyboard encoder and you'll be golden.

So far the games are:

Cliff Hanger
Cobra Command
Cube Quest
Firefox
Mach 3
Us vs. Them

If you watch the what's new Mame updates, you'll see the groundwork is being laid for quite a few more.

The only drawback to using Mame is that they decided on a more accurate save of the laser disk. So, instead of an mpeg1 looking file like Daphne has, the Mame ones are CHD, and much larger; the average Mame laser video size is about 13GB.

Good suggestion, but doesn't always work 100% That's your best option, short of changing out the encoder...

XPadder is a nice option too.  I personally like it better than Joy2Key.

If it doesn't register, then you're SOL.

I should have come in here sooner.  This isn't true.

How many joysticks are on your system?  Go into Gamepads and see how many are registered.  Daphne will want to use the first one in the list.  However, you can make it use any one you want.

This is from memory... but try it out.  Go into your gamepad list in the control panel.  Highlight the GPWiz and click the "Advanced" button.  Set the preferred device to your GPWiz.

Bam.  Daphne should see it.

The only thing Daphne can't do is use more than one gamepad device at once.  So if you have GPWiz and a flightstick, you can't have Daphne see them both.  Or, like on my system, I have my preferred device set as my U360, but then I don't get the admin buttons that are on my GPWiz.  I've got to use joy2key for those.

I should qualify my original statement; it depends in your setup and button requirements. I am speaking from experience, using a GPWiz.  My original setup with a GPWiz (and no other gamepad or joystick, just a keyboard encoder) would work great with the directionals, however would not map the buttons properly. It just wouldn't see some of the buttons.

Hmm... that could be.  Maybe it only recognizes buttons 1-16 or something. MAME actually has a little hiccup with buttons 14-16.

Check out this thread for setting up Daphneloader to work:

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=66957.0 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=66957.0)

It should work with default Mame keysettings - no need for joy2key etc. Only caveat is that I did this three years ago. I still use it today, but have not updated Daphneloader to the latest either.

the ipac's are the only encoder I will ever use I have never had any problems or flaw's with them hooking them up or using them with any software.

the mini-pac was another story and I wont use them anymore but the ipac's are the way to go.

Like I said earlier, a keyboard encoder is the only way to go for full support in Daphne. I would use an IPAC or KeyWiz instead.
