Title: Iron Man - It's finally here! (with pictures)
Post by: Q*Bert_OP on April 13, 2010, 07:41:51 pm
Has anyone played this game yet? From what I've seen, it looks pretty good. Any opinions?

Xiaou2, you do not need not reply.  :troll:

I've already got mine ordered...I should be able to pick it up next week. Yes Jim, you are welcome to come play it.

wow.  Thats Insane.  Thats like ordering a food you never have tasted, and hoping
to the heavens it wont make you Ill.  Best of luck to you.

Personally, I wont buy Any machine without extensive play on it, no
matter who makes it.

I got it at dealer cost, so if I don't like it, I can always get my money back out within the first few months.

I'm kind of surprised you pushed Family Guy out the door for this one.  Mind you, I'm no fan of the Family Guy pinball machine (and I'm worn out on that guy's cartoons) but seems to enjoy a decent rep on RGP.

I was trying to get a MM...for the fifth time, then I noticed the recent price jump...so I'm going to wait it out...

Then the opportunity knocked to get this game...

If you don't mind me asking, what's 'dealer cost'?  Before the price hikes I always heard $2,800...  If you don't wanna say, that's cool.

Iron Man's a clear ripoff of Austin Powers... Austin Powers was a great playing game with an obnoxious theme.  If it carries enough of the gameplay over to Iron Man, ought to be a fun game.  Let us know when you get it, I need a road trip.

Well, the ramps are straight off of Austin Powers, but it differs quite a bit from there based on the impressions I've heard. But yeah, this more basic approach might be fun for a change.

I just laugh that who replied first.

I wish I had the room and money to have A pin, let alone a COLLECTION. When you get the ironman, can you post pix? Thanks in advance!

I played it at the Chicagoland show over the weekend. Kind of shocked to see it there. Can't say that I was very impressed by it, kind of bored with it. Played a game with a friend and moved on.

I do that at every restaurant I go to. I don't get to taste the food before it's ordered and arrives. Only Baskin Robins lets me sample first.  ;)

I got to play it today with the .91 code, and it was really fun. It's basic, but no more than say something like Attack From Mars. THIS GAME IS FAST! Holy smokes, you have to be on your toes a lot or you'll never keep up. It's pretty flashy, and the music is killer. I won't be trying to hunt one down for the home or anything, but I really hope they show up on location commonly as I'd like to be able to play it once in a while.

Right, but most dinners cost under $50.... not $4000.  And, you can pretty
much see how IM plays from watching the videos of it.  Its like looking at
food in a buffet window.  When you see nasty looking dried up old food,
you know its not gonna be worth buying.

 Try again.

You had a horrible analogy, let it go. I wish you'd grace stern with your presence and go design a couple dozen stellar tables to get their sales up. I'd pre-order your death punch table fo sho!
Title: Re: Iron Man
Post by: Xiaou2 on April 21, 2010, 01:17:27 pm

I wish I could .. but Stern isnt going to go with my budget and lack
of compromises.

 Maybe the new French company...

Anyways, Im getting to the point where Im considering starting out by
modding my BK2K as a widebody, and adding new features to it.

Id love to make a pin from scratch... but nobody makes an Easy to
program unit.  (drag n drop stuff.  i cant program for beans)

You can build a proof of concept in Vpin or Future pinball.
Title: Re: Iron Man
Post by: Xiaou2 on April 21, 2010, 04:25:59 pm
I Cant program.

But also, it would never play like it should.  As soon as you went
to build it on real wood, with real parts, ...the game would play completely different, and
you would have to redesign the entire table all over again.

Q-Bert - have you gotten your game yet?

It shipped yesterday...I'm hoping it'll be in this Friday. I've got to go to Houston to pick it up.

Move to Lubbock or whatever still on?

Yep...to Amarillo. That's not going to be for a few months, and we just bought some more commercial property in CC, so we aren't leaving for good for a while.

I also played it at the Chicagoland show.  I thought it was fun, but I am no pinball expert, just a guy that likes to play an occasional game.  I thought it definitely had "shock and awe" wow factor going for it.  I liked it, but then again I'd be happy with a machine 1/4 that price.    ;D

What's the game's main "hook"? You know, NBA has the magnetic hoop throw, CSI has the centrifuge, ...

There's a big "Iron Monger" that rises up out of the center of the main field,  that seems to be the big selling point.  Haven't seen the magnet in front of him do much in the videos I've watched.  But he sure dominates the playfield when he pops up.

Playwise, I think it's the magnet/target setup in front of whiplash that will be what it's known for.

Update:

I'm supposed to be getting this game in on Friday. It was in on Monday, but I can't go to Dallas during the week...so, it's being delivered to Corpus, along with a beautiful Top Card EM.

I played it a bit more at the Rocky Mountain Pinball Showdown and I still like it. It's fast, challenging, and the sound package is great.

Let me know when you get Iron Man setup and want to deal with an obnoxious jackass.  I've yet to play 24 or CSI, too.

I dont think he's gonna let Xaiou play it.

Xiaou wouldn't play it even if it meant the ushering in of permanent world peace.

High wear areas mylar-ed: War machine kicker, around the magnet posts, slingshots, ball drops, etc.

Woah, that looks nice. I put up my personal best score just yesterday on the game. It's not great, but given that I've probably only played 10-15 games on it I'm kinda proud of it at this point. It was around 64 million.

Nice!

I played 24 and CSI at the Texas Pinball festival. Very nice machines.

But I can see what LOTR is so popular. There were several there. They were played hard. Very fun game.

That Iron man looks like a blast too.

Had much more fun playing some of the more unusual EM machines.
I gota get a nice EM in my collection one day.

Beautiful pin...  Now tear it apart and get us some good pictures of the playfield, scan the plastics and while you're at it rip the rom files. :D

Just kidding...  I'm jealous.  Due to space restrictions I'm limited to 1 pin and decided to go with a digital pin.

All SAM hardware games are updated via USB drive...the code is on Stern's website.

Oh, and I already had the playfield down to just posts and pop bumpers...I LED'ed and white rubbered the whole game before the balls were installed.

Maybe I'm jealous but I hate when you LED freaks turn every game you get into a red and blue/purple colored blur....where's the distinction?  Me and LEDs and pinball just don't get along very well. If you tried to sell this game to me for more money because of the LED mods I would have to give you way less.

I played that too. IF the game wasn't tilting to the left so much that the ball kept getting stuck at the top it is a pretty decent game. I wouldn't call it worth $4,000 but it is pretty decent. If the movie is a blockbuster then there is a chance that the machine will rack in some quarters.

Oh, and I already had the playfield down to just posts and pop bumpers...I LED'ed and white rubbered the whole game before the balls were installed.

How long did that take? I wouldn't have been able to do that to a new machine without 3-4 plays first.

I don't like all these blue/purple leds in GI but under most plastics if you get the proper color they look pretty good.

It took about 6 hours to do all the stuff I did. I wasn't really anxious to play it, my neighbor has had his set up and playing for about a week.
