Quick write up from my site.
03.07.29 Well, received the stainless steel joysticks above after a week delay, have been using them for a couple of weeks know. They look beautiful but they're so heavy, they impact game play negatively. The only game they did really well in was Robotron [not in itself a bad thing of course], but even for simple games like Pac-Man and Donkey Kong releasing the stick from a right push would cause the pendulum effect and it would end up hitting the opposite micro switch on the swing back to the left and have Mario facing in the opposite direction. Fighting games felt sloppy too. It's too bad, I really wanted to make them work. They dropped into my Happ Supers but the default springs just aren't built to handle the weight of these things. So I ended up putting the Supers back in. I did like their cool to the touch and smooth feeling. It would be nifty to perhaps hollow them out and get at least closer to the originals weighting.

I assumed that would happen - they look so top heavy.

I wonder if you could get stronger springs....
-
I've heard stronger springs can wear out a joystick quicker (though I have no way to back that up).
Read it on Bob Roberts' website.

stronger springs also cause cancer. But so does everything else we use everyday.

AlanS17,
We now carry Happ Heavy springs. They are available for Competition, Super, Ultimate joysticks and are $0.99 EA, they aren

So with the use of a stronger spring would reduce the pendulum effect but would it also give me carpal tunnel syndrome quicker? Wouldn't that be that much more force to move it?
-
Well, yeah, it would take more force. Even takes more force to move a heavier joystick without a stronger spring.

Actually the stronger springs kind of counter act the added weight of the stainless steel, similar to the light springs with the lighter handle.

Christain, you have your physics screwed up:) Larger mass and larger force spring mean more force to get the stick moving and more force to keep it moving. Thank Newton for those laws of physics. Inertia, it's a good thing :)

I think that the force used to go from "at rest" to motion would be significantly great. Not only would you have to overcome the springs resistance but also the weight of the stick. On the return motion. The springs kinetic energy would help until you reached the top. Then it would start all over. But, forgetting my humor from before. Has anymore noticed more fatigue from using these with or without the heavy springs. Regardless of all of this. I will be getting some. I really like the look and it will match the physiognomy of the whole system. Maybe change them out for myself when planning for some heavy game play.
SlikStik-Christian: Ever thought about cross drilling the handles to reduce weight? Might even add a more rugged (in a good way) look.

It's probably no heavier than a tron stick so I wouldn't complain :)

But you wouldn't play fighters/classic games/etc with a tron stick, but you would expect to with this handle. Probably would just take some getting used to. Probably would have some huge muscles after long sessions with that baby.
Christian - I'm not knocking this at all, mind you - I think it looks awesome. I'd buy some if I didn't already have ball-top replacements for my comps. I think the other stainless steel looks great, too - all you need now are metal buttons of some kind and I'll be making a chrome cab :)
-
Has anyone used the ball-top stainless steal sticks? When Christian initially announced his new line he only mentioned the bat-handle sticks. The ball-top sticks look like they'd be much lighter (and cooler looking, IMHO).

But a tron stick is longer, so you have more leverage. ;) :P
FWIW, I put stronger springs in my raider pro stick hacks, and the play is much better than with the normal springs. Not sure how it compares to the stainless steel sticks, though. *shrug*
