Here you go... I've been asking a few things on here over the last few weeks so to anyone who's replied to any of my posts so far.... thanks!
Since these were taken we've done some more to the top and fitted the speaker panel...

Nice start. I like the shape of you cab. Not a million miles away from the shape of mine!

Just found your thread to compare and yep, the shape is very similar and now I know why! I based mine roughly on Project MAME too.. Think he has a great site for getting tips etc on the build!
See you're in the UK too! Just found a link on one of your posts to the Trent Plastics site, might have a look at that!
How are you getting on with your project?
I'm now racking my brains over the control panel layout and whether to keep it plain black or to go all out and start thinking about graphics... Plus the joys of setting up a frontend etc and working out how to boot straight into it, shutdown safely etc...

See you're in the UK too!
We'll have to start up a UK crew!!!

I have said this time and time again. A UK meet-up should be organised! I was so annoyed I missed the insert-coin expo.

My projects coming along OK. I have a pretty crap deal with work, so my time is limited. I'm laminating at the moment. I hope I'll get a couple of hours at the weekend to carry on with that. Its slow, but it's still moving. I take huge inspiration from some of the guys on here who produce amazing cabs.
I spent a while wondering about the whole arcade integration with the operating system thing, so I have been working on my own Linux distro that is basically MAME and Wah!Cade (the linux version of MAMEWAH) wrapped up with a very stripped down Ubuntu so the whole OS is completely hidden, but I can connect to it remotely from my laptop and get a fully functioning desktop with all my applications that I will possibly need. When it's finished I plan on making it available for free download for anyone to use if they want. It's installable to HDD, or you can boot it from a CD or a USB stick.
It's nice to see another UK builder on here. There seems to be quite a few of us now.

Hello, I'm from the UK too. I was thinking of starting a UK thread so we can help out each other with UK suppliers, share shipping costs, etc. What forum should we put this in? Nice cab by the way :applaud:

Looks like you are getting on well. Its nice cab building weather at the moment :)
There is a UK pricewatch thread [here (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=85322.0)] if you find any good deals on anything shrunkenmaster and you can always add vendors to the Wiki too [here (http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Vendors)].

Very old school and professional looking. :notworthy:

Unfortunately I wasn't able to put many build pictures up as I kept forgetting my camera and it meant I was only able to take rubbish ones with my iPhone.. However I got the cabinet home yesterday which is 99% finished now and for our first effort on a cab (myself and my dad - yes we both have the bug now!) I'm pretty pleased..
I'm terrible artistically so ended up using a marquee I found of someone else's who was happy for others to use it, as well as using a MaLa template from the website that I slightly amended (now shows the time and the snap videos rather than pictures)...
Please don't be too harsh with the comments! It's our first try....
Things still to do:
1) Put proper feet on it (still has temporary wooden ones on that we knocked up)
2) Dim that marquee light!!
3) Control Panel overlay?? At least some graphics on the white buttons to explain what they do!

Forgot to add the other pics! Oops

:applaud: :applaud: Nice job well done mate. Project MAME is taking over the world
Yet another cracking looking cab based on Rasmus Kønig Sørensen's original. A cab to be proud of.
Quick work too... I should really get my finger out and get mine finished.

When I re-read your thread yesterday, I knew I recognized that Mala layout...! Isn't that by Kyle Miller (a.k.a GameCreature from Springfield, Massachusetts) He's the gentleman I have been talking to about getting some artwork done on my own cab.
-
I think that is correct yep regarding the layout...
Indeed Project MAME is taking over it seems! I think it's just a great base layout and exactly how i pictured my cab before i saw his website too! Maybe eventually I'll jazz up with a CPO or sideart but i have to keep the wife happy and she prefers the simplistic look!
