Title: Tapper controls
Post by: shrunkenmaster on April 11, 2010, 04:30:38 pm
Anyone got a Tapper? I'd like some info on the tap handles. I've read here that they're connected to joysticks. If so, are the sticks restricted to 1-way (ie. down)? Any details/pics would be great!

Tapper has a 4-way stick (up/down/left/right) and a Handle (2-way up/down) to serve and pour.
KLOV should have a pic and maybe MAWS also.

Here is a pic.

I've got a pair of the tap controls (2 way, up/down).  I can take any pics you might want.  Just let me know.

Thanks guys,
Just found the manual, that explains a lot. Ninten-doh, some pics of the controls would be great - they don't look too complicated to recreate but some nice images of the handles would be great.

Interesting... when I played I remember that all I needed to do was let go of the thing from "Pour" position and it would serve it. I guess the snap back of the stick was enough to trigger the Serve switch.

According to the manual there's only one leafswitch per tap. I presume you pull the lever, switch engages, let go, disengages. Simple!

Exactly right.  Pull down to pour, then let go and it snaps back up/serves.

Here are some pics I took tonight.  Can't really take a side pic because the frame blocks everything:

And yes, one of my handles is crooked.   :)  I'll fix that soon enough.

Many thanks Ninten-doh! Couple of questions:

Is it just the pressure of the leafswitch that returns the stick back up?

When you get a minute, do you think you could provide approximate measurements that I've notated on the image?

I have no idea how or what to make the handles from, but I reckon I'll give it a go. Can't see a pair of these turning up for sale too often.

Unless you are working on an actual Tapper cabinet, you could "upgrade" the handle to an actual beer tap.  That would be cool!

Hey bkenobi,
I'm planning a Tapper Mini/Cabaret, as I only have a small doorway  ;D to my studio. Have been looking at proper beer taps on the bay but I'm trying to find out the approximate size of the Tapper taps first. As I said before it'd be a challenge for me to make some myself, as I have no plastics/metal experience!

Or maybe a Duff Beer Can - Tap Handle (thinking of Simpson Tapper): ;D

Hey Congui,
Was thinking about this very thing last night - hadn't seen a Duff tap handle before though! Also thinking that I'd only need one tap as my CP will probably be 18". This is getting interesting artwork wise, lots of scope for Simpson Tapper methinks...
