Title: Is a dead flyback ALWAYS obvious?

I think I need to replace my flyback for my Electrohome G07, but it looks fine no cracks or weird melting or anything....I even took it off the board and inspected it... looks beautiful.
I've replaced the caps and fuses and HOT....seems like replacing the flyback will eliminate another possible cause of the monitor not working.

not ALWAYS, most times.

the flyback will either work, or won't. and when it doesn't it usually let you know pretty good.

if your having an issue with a monitor, it's best to work logically. Knowing how it works and thinking about what IS working and what ISN'T working will help you narrow down what is going on.

having said that, there is no sense throwing good money after bad "shot gunning" a problem with a board if it's just a 10 cent resistor that failed.

I agree with LilShawn for the most part, but...

The G07 is starting to show its age.  The original flybacks on these are failing in droves.  They've reached the end of their usable life.  If it's original, I'd advocate replacing it.   You can tell if it's original if it's grey.  If it's white, it's a replacement.

Often, capping the monitor puts stress on the original flyback, and it can react violently!

I don't see a thread regarding this monitor, except for this one.  Do you have one?  There are several things that can cause a G07 to appear dead, but not actually BE dead.

   Well...what Is the B+ voltage?  Not even close is only half an answer.  Is it more or less than 120 volts?  Do you wan't help fixing this or not?   Vague uninformative answers to critical questions will have you playing NINTENDO on your home TV instead of the game this monitor is in.

   If your B+ is not 120V you need to investigate if your power regulator is bad.  If the B+ is too high the x-ray protection circuit will make the monitor look dead.  If it is high,  say 160v or so,  remove transistor X701 and power up the monitor again to see if it lights.  This disables the x-ray protection circuit.  IMPORTANT   IMPORTANT IMPORTANT---Do not leave this circuit disabled and run the monitor for any length of time this way.  This protection circuit ABSOLUTELY must be reconnected when the monitor is fixed.
