Title: Are arcade monitors supposed to do this?
Post by: JoeB on July 29, 2003, 11:56:55 am
Just trying to scope out the performance on my WG 7000 series monitor.. here's the things I noticed:

- When the machine is shutdown, and I get close to the back of the monitor, I can hear static, and tiny popping coming from it for about 30 seconds to a minute after power down.
- When the monitor is running, I can hear wooshing, popping sounds (faint) coming from the flyback tranformer (?? - the device that connects to the red wire that goes to the actual CRT)

Thanx!

Both seem to be common sounds. Feel the front of the monitor after you shut down, there's static electricity all over it, you're probably hearing what's on the front getting discharged at the back. The whoosing-popping will probably go away after it warms up. I think it takes 30 min. minimum for one to warm up normally, and these are old monitors too.
