how much does a sheet of mdf weigh? i'm not looking for any specific size, I just want to get an idea of how much it weight in comparison to plywood

3/4" Ply ~75lb
3/4" MDF ~ 100lb
Here's a thread about the weights of different thicknesses of MDF in which I detail how determine the weigh of MDF in reply #6:

And a rule of thumb for plywood is 25lb per quarter inch of thickness @ 4x8.

From what I've seen online:
MDF = approx 48 lbs/ cu ft
Plywood = approx 36 lbs / cu ft
Those numbers will vary some but they line up well with crashwg's numbers and with how they feel when you pick up one of each.

Ahh.. so my friend was right about a sheet of mdf weighing about 100lbs..
I was thinking of going with mdf because it looks nicer when painted and it saves on cost.. but if I use two sheet we're talking about 50lbs more, hmm that's not too bad.

Heh, I remember working my first day at a construction job where I had to move about a hundred of those MDF boards down a flight of stairs. I was trying to show off to the older guys by bringing like 3 down at a time. They practically had to carry me out at lunch break :-[

For my cab I used a combination of ply and mdf - the cab body is ply to save on weight and all the removable parts (control panel, doors, keyboard shelf) are made of mdf.

800kg/m3 if you like metric :)

the heaviest 100lbs you will ever grab.
took me by surprise the first time I lifted a sheet and put it on my head.
